Contemporary Oak Dinning Table - extendable

rainbowtinsel · 20/03/2024 16:02

Can anyone find me one. I would like something quite low profile rather than ‘chunky’ and must be a light/cool oak as opposed to the orange/warmer shades of old.

Needs to be rectangular and seat 8 when fully extended.

I LOVED this ⬇️ but the reviews are awful 😣 https://www.johnlewis.com/ebbe-gehl-for-john-lewis-mira-6-10-seater-extending-dining-table/p5308428

Would go close to 2k for the right thing but would obvs rather not 😅😅….at all!

Ercol are worth looking at for that type of design
The ercol Romana is just over your budget though sometimes available in their outlet. However it's solid oak whereas most tables under £2k will be veneer.
Could also look secondhand eg at ercol grand windsor

Buy from Smiths The Rink- they have been an Ercol dealer for 70 years or something and offer the best prices on Ercol (and they get a quicker delivery than some suppliers I think)

We’ve just bought the Stockholm range (table and 2 benches) from furniture village. It’s not solid oak but we couldn’t find many out there we liked that were. It was this or one from Bo Concept, but we couldn’t justify the price when we have a whole house to renovate.
Its serving it’s purpose so far, is well made and looks good.

We were going to buy a new table with a similar budget to yours but then picked up a really nice one at an auction for about £400. Worth having a quick look at local auctions, especially if they do house clearances?

We have this one from housing units.
its extendable from each end. So you could buy two additional leaves. One for each end.

as it extends at the ends there’s no line down the middle for the extension.

Would you mind posting a picture of your actual wood colour please? I think it’s so hard to buy one online because the photos of the wood aren’t always realistic in these touched up website images.

I really like the look of yours.

I would not recommend Oak Furniture land, we bought a very expensive dining table and coffee table from them. I love them don't get me wrong but the customer service is absolutely appalling. Our coffee table arrived with a huge chunk missing out of the side, when we complained on delivery they said they would sort it. They then sent a polisher to polish the chunk out, even he was laughing at how ridiculous that was. Many arguments later they sent a replacement table. Then we had delivery of the dining table due, they were ordered at the same time, this arrived also with extensive damage to it. They said they would send a replacement, this arrived a few weeks later and the very nice delivery guys opened the packaging outside as they had concerns about woodworm and they were right, it was riddled with them. So many many weeks later we received table number 3, all good. Fast forward 2 weeks and we heard a huge bang, the table had blown, it had a crack the size of the grand canyon in it. When we spoke to Joke Furniture land as we had now renamed them they said it was out fault as we hadn't (in the 2 weeks we had had the table) used the table wax they had provided with the table. When we mentioned that we hadn't been provided with any wax and it in fact hadn't even been mentioned to us that it needed to be waxed straightaway they back tracked and agreed to replace again. When the next table was delivered the delivery guys pointed me to a facebook page full of customers complaining about the shocking service. Our table is really nice though 😂

I have the M&S Sonoma dining table and am very happy with it.

Do you have any local auction houses near you? We got solid oak dresser from ours at something like a quarter of the RRP. Just had to pay a man with a van to deliver.

We have the table you linked - now 10 years old and had two children / large dog running round it. It has been bomb proof - at first I worried about it staining and had a tablecloth on it - but preferred the wood and tablemats. I clean it with dettol spray - not a specialist cleaner and has done well / not scruffy. I've tightened the legs probably twice in the last 10 years and moved property twice, so handled dismantling fine. We bought a few items from the range and the only one we sent back was the TV cabinet as a quality issue on it. So maybe take another look at it.

I love this table and am pretty sure I’ve seen the exact same one in EZlivinginteriors for less (£899). So if anyone interested lives in NI / ROI have a look

I take it back - I’ve just noticed they sell the extension leaves separately, they seem to be included in John Lewis 🤦🏻‍♀️

Woweee thank you so much for all the responses, slowly working through, some companies that I’d not hear of so that’s good. Will let you know how we get on.

We regularly purchase our household furniture from AIF. They have an amazing range of extending tables (our personal favourite is the Zurich!)

Ercol Outlet in Princes Risborough, you could combine a visit with Oxford or Bicester. - they only open Monday to Friday. Heals. Ebay. Auctioneers.

We’ve got this extendable table from Perch and Parrow and it’s fantastic https://www.perchandparrow.com/finn-extendable-dining-table - delivery and service was fab too.

@rainbowtinsel Just curious what you went for in the end? I could have written this post, currently on the hunt for the perfect table!

What is the colour like in real life? This table is high up on my short list, but worried it will arrive and be more orange in colour rather than blonde/light.
