Silicone- builders gone mad with white silicone

Help! Am I being unreasonable? We’re two days off moving back home after a huge renovation. So many niggles and I don’t know if I am losing perspective.

the builders have white siliconed everything they can see and I hate it!

lvt floors with white skirting’s. I plan to change colour of skirtings in medium term and I think the silicone lines looks awful.

cream marble bathroom tiles and white silicon - also awful.

am I fixating on micro details ? Should I let it go?

Is it definitely silicone and not caulk?

CatherinedeBourgh · 13/03/2024 21:38

What were you expecting in those places?

I’m such a novice - I don’t know the difference between silicone and caulk. It’s a bright white shiny plastic stripe. I can ask tomorrow- I was wondering whether it looked as bad as I think or if I am overthinking.

I wasn't expecting there to be anything there. No one has mentioned anything. I don’t know if there are any other options at all. I thought the way the skirting looked before was fine. And the tiler mentioned for the painter to take the paint onto the grout at the top of the tiles but didn’t say anything else.

thanks for your patience with me.

If it's silicon sealant it's easy enough to remove, you can get them to do that. If you are happy without anything there then that's fine.

It's your house, it's whatever you want. Some people like everything with sealant, some don't. It's not a big deal.

You need to fill the gap with something but it shouldn’t be silicone. I hate it too. It doesn’t stay white for long and peels over time. It’s not the proper way to do things.

Some silicone sealants are paintable and should be fine.
