Deposit money and 'Held to Order'

Our solicitor has advised we don't allow deposit monies to be retained by the buyer's solicitor (mainly in case they cease trading between exchange and completion) - known as 'Held to Order'. Instead they suggest we use a telegraphic transfer, and pay for the buyer's transfer if they refuse to pay. Is this all normal practice? Need to find out how much the transfer is next!
