Council housing-bidding

NoEffingWay · 10/03/2024 07:21

We have just been accepted onto the housing list for our local area and can now start bidding.

Does anyone have experience of how long they had to wait on Band C to get a 2 bed house?

I know this is potentially a 'how long is a piece of string?' Question but it all seems a bit of an unknown!

UmElise · 10/03/2024 17:06

I was accepted onto the housing list back in 2022 as band A in the West Midlands and iam currently still bidding

I'm Band C but under a different council. Been bidding since 2020. I don't expect to get an offer in this band to be honest. Could be different where you are..

@UmElise trying to be vague due to the anonymity of mn.

We have been classed as medium need due to DH's medical conditions/disability. In our council, high and priority housing assessment is only given to those who are homeless or have a life-limiting conditon or similar.

There's no information online about the average wait under our council/district.

I have a feeling we are in for a long wait, but it's so hard to work out the system. We are currently in private rental but are seeking housing security so that DH can concentrate on getting well, and knowing we can't be kicked out on spurious grounds.

I understand, I was given band A due to homelessness. With band c you will probably wait long but as long as you’re on the housing register and bidding it’s a matter of waiting game. When you bid how many people are before you roughly?

This is the first round we could have bidded on but they only have 1 bed flats or older persons bungalows in this cycle. Last time we could have bidded on about 6 houses but no luck this time.

Last time there were between about 50-60 bids on each house that would have been suitable.

Have you had an OT from the council do a housing report? Different council & banding where I am (South west) I'm band 2, which would be the equivalent of your band B I assume.
However, due to the housing report stating we need single level access & wet room (son is in a wheelchair after illness, probably permanently) we are allocated band 2 with urgent medical need.

Obviously we are more limited with suitable properties that have been or able to be adapted. Only got on the register last week so no help on timescale but the OT report is worth a look at.

I've been in a private home given by the hatrac scheme 4years ago. I have been bidding and was givin a priority bandb1 2 years ago as there was whole thing due to the landlord raising the rent to 1300. I've found out today they've moved me back to band c and the rent is now being raised to 1500 and the electricity is coming out a 400 a month. They won't help and I'm getting to point where all my income will just be going on those two things a month. I'm a single mum and i feel like im letting her down and I'm trying to hold it together but they just send me to every section possible or tell me to be calm. I'm stressed as I was getting 4s and 5s and now I'm way back to 250 300s. I don't know what to do.I hate this homem I no most have worst but its affecting me, I've done all they asked, I've been patient and it's just 4 years of stress and my mental health is going back down can someone please advise
