Rooflight installation - costs+process

Hi everyone,

I want to get a small rooflight put into our (flat) roof as our hallway is completely dark.

I'd seen online that the installation (exc window cost) usually was a bit over the 1 grand mark, but when I called up a local company he was quoting all sorts of costs to me I wasn't aware of - and saying the process would take ages, involving building control, structural engineers etc. The way he was talking it sounded like it would end up being around 3000, and I'm now thinking I can't afford it which has left me feeling quite low as even this small adjustment seems out of my budget.

Any insight into the process other people went through and cost would be helpful as I'm feeling quite lost. Thanks.

Another option is a sun tunnel. We have 2, one in an en-suite one in a hall way.
ours are velux, and we also have installed velux roof windows in our kitchen.
I think you need to contact several installers to ensure that you are receiving correct guidance.
There is also lots of information online.
