Completion and exchange Date

When did everyone get their estimated completion and exchange date? I have been waiting for four weeks for my sellers house purchase to advance but I have been told now that their house sale is delayed for another month. However the sellers have decided to move in with family in order to not hold up our purchase with our potential move in date of 22nd March. This is only 3 weeks away and I haven’t received an exchange date or anything and feel like this is all very last minute is this normal??

You don't officially set a completion date until you exchange- before that its just a target.

Once you exchange you can complete very quickly (same day even) but most people leave a 1-2 week gap between them to sort movers etc.

You don't plan an exchange date- the solicitor will just confirm when everything is ready to go, all enquiries have been answered etc, and then ask everyone for consent to exchange. They'll then exchange that day or within a couple of days.

However everyone in the chain has to agree to the completion date, so if 22nd March doesn't work for you then say so!

Mine moved really fast at the end. My sellers had to wait an extra month for the legal enquiries on my house to be sorted. It felt like it was dragging on forever. Then all of a sudden the enquiries were all sorted. It took 3 days for a completion date to be agreed across the whole chain. The completion date that was finally agreed was only one week away by the time it was agreed. It took the solicitors a couple of days to then sort out the exchange. We exchanged on Friday and then completed the following Wednesday. Maybe your conveyancers are not in a huge rush to exchange as completion is still 3 weeks away?
