Still not exchanged!!!
I have had an email to say the removals firm I was using is now fully booked on the anticipated move date. I cannot book anything until exchange, so have been trying to see what other availability there is out there. It is a 2 day move, so requires willing volunteers for the Saturday as apparently it can only be this day (according to my buyers buyer)
I feel a bit sick and have a stress headache!

Oh no! Sounds like a nightmare, I feel very lucky that I'm not in chain. I hope you manage to find someone good!

BG2015 · 03/05/2024 16:58

Can't decide whether to break the chain and move in with my parents so my buyer can move in.

It will be a total nightmare as it means using storage and eventually moving twice.

We're 10 weeks on and I've withdrawn from my initial purchase and have just had an offer accepted on another property.

I'm a teacher, as is my buyer and he's asked for May half term or the start of the 6 week holidays which is only 11 weeks away. We actually go away to Turkey for the first 2 weeks of the school holidays so it would be August before any of us could move.

If I was him I'd be majorly peed off.

Need to talk it over with my partner when he gets in. My parents are in their 80's so it won't be ideal and my DS would have to move in with his dad temporarily.

I hate moving house.

UtterlyQuackers · 03/05/2024 17:37

Congratulations @noodles44

Hope you can sort out the removal!

I am a teacher too that's why we tried to aim for the Easter holidays.

We move next week on the first of my GCSE. Excellent 🤦🏽‍♀️

noodles44 · 03/05/2024 18:03

No exchange for me today, but I have found removals who will match the price agreed with who I thought would do it.
So nipped over there today and grabbed a car full of boxes, tape and paper... Have had to pay a deposit as am not officially booked in until we have exchanged, but it will be knocked off the final bill. I have a busy bank holiday weekend ahead packing up. I need to do most of it then as I have very few days off after that before we go...

🤞Tuesday for exchange and then completion on 17th...

WitchyWay · 03/05/2024 18:16

@KatVal that's reassuring! I've been wondering if I'm crazy doubling my mortgage during such uncertain times but at the same time the timing couldn't be better in every other way for us and it feels like a now or never moment. It's good to know others are taking the leap too!

I think what added to the concern was the broker initially struggling to get us the mortgage when the affordability shrunk overnight. Luckily our existing provider has agreed to it now.

runningmom · 03/05/2024 18:55

@BG2015 also a teacher desperate to move in the six weeks holiday with the kids (divorce). I cannot deal with the stress involved if we move in September with just one day off allowed!! I have a lot of DIY to do in the new house too!

Yes we had exactly the same debate, perfect timing for us (finances excluded). Hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end. Glad you've got it sorted x

I called my EA to see if she had an update today - last I'd heard was Wednesday when my solicitor emailed my buyers solicitor asking if they were ready to proceed. She casually told me that my buyers have requested completion 24th May. I've already told the EA and my solicitor that my mortgage offer expires (again) on 23rd May and I need to complete by the 17th 🤦🏻‍♀️ She said leave it with her so 🤞 they agree to the 17th.

Purplepepsi · 03/05/2024 22:03

I've been cleaning again as our buyers wanted to come again to show her family around. Apparently it all went well and she was asking about things like keeping the range cooker which we were planning to leave anyway. So fingers crossed she gets her survey booked in now!

We are all systems go. Everything has been start stop so we haven't really started packing. We have a company coming to move and pack but we have so much to do! Thank god for the bank holiday!

GoldieLookingBoots · 04/05/2024 12:06

I feel like I’ve been hanging around on this thread forever! Still in the waiting room, waiting to exchange. Congratulations to the people who have made it out of the waiting room, into the packing up and completing room!
Fuming this week as we were originally told that everyone would be ready to exchange after BH weekend. Lo and behold, someone further up the chain has only just ordered their searches! Throughout this nightmare process, the EAs for selling and buying have made us out to be the ones holding everything up, yet here we are.
I’m also a teacher, but we’ve requested 2 weeks between exchange and completion as we’re packing ourselves and need to give notice for the 1 day off work! We do not want to move during the school holidays as we’d have our son with us and he has complex SEND and requires constant supervision. It’s hard to explain this to EAs and get this across to the others in the chain. We really want to start packing but we’ve had previous set of buyers pull out after 5 months, so we’re being cautious, but this BH feels like a good opportunity to start on packing.

toni1602 · 04/05/2024 18:04

@UtterlyQuackers Thank you. It is a complete nightmare. I just hope they come back next week and say they can do the 17th. Otherwise, I'm going to have to go back to my mortgage lender again (they've already extended my offer twice).

I've packed and organised the majority of our non-essentials now so absolutely dreading something going wrong! Love having the bank holiday to get more organised but also means another day with no news!

noodles44 · 04/05/2024 22:59

Thanks and best of luck @UtterlyQuackers
@toni1602 crossing everything they can get a completion date before your mortgage offer runs out, what a nail biting end to it all.

I have packed my lounge today inbetween some fun stuff I hope it happens now as it all looks very bare and it is a bit like a hoarder type house having to navigate a pathway thru the boxes all of the sudden!

Amarettispaghetti · 05/05/2024 07:52

Congratulations to everyone exchanging!! We are so close...after our buyers solicitor saying no enquiries needed at the end of April we got a call late on friday from the EA apparently our buyer has now submitted a few enquiries but our solicitor has not received them. However everyone in the chain has agreed on 10th for exchange and 24th May for completion so just need to wait and see what these enquiries are on Tuesday. I packed the shed and the utility room as we both work full time and kids do so many out of school clubs not sure when I will find the time!

WitchyWay · 05/05/2024 08:14

Fingers crossed to those imminently waiting for exchange and completion dates! Such an anxiety provoking time, I hope it all goes smoothly for you now.

Can I ask what everyone's done for boxes? I hate the idea of paying £££ and the environmental impact of buying them all new but equally no idea where I'd source used ones and whether that's worth it in the long run.

Also, can anyone tell me what a rough moving firm cost would be, for 3 bed in South East (Kent). Do they usually offer the boxes as part of the deal?

I have bought 30 boxes as I cant be worrying about finding the right size and strength but I've paid just under 50 for them all which includes tape and will give them away after. I'm intensively decluttering and sending stuff to charity shops plus will leave things in storage cubes and drawers for moving so only packing what I absolutely have to. Clothes are going into vacuum storage bags and I bought a massive tool box to decant all our tools into from the shed.

noodles44 · 05/05/2024 19:32

@WitchyWay My removers provided boxes, tape and some paper as part of the deal. I am moving across the country though, so not sure what I do with them all. Recycling at the tip I suppose, they won't be hanging around, waiting for me to unpack everything!

WitchyWay · 05/05/2024 19:38

@Amarettispaghetti the tool box is a brilliant idea! Will suggest it to my partner who looks after the contents of the shed and garage.

@noodles44 yes, totally see what you mean. I think I'll keep an eye out on marketplace but otherwise wait to see what the packers come back with on their quote. We're literally moving around the corner so it feels crazy to spend much on moving but I suppose that's all irrelevant for movers, a days work is a days work!

I'm hopefully moving for the first time (FTB), and while I can't do much to move the process on, but I have been looking into packing/moving options. I've found a couple of online companies who rent out different size crates and they seem quite reasonably priced. Will deliver and collect them, and they're like the ones offices use for moves. I think that's what I'm going to go for rather than cardboard boxes.

WitchyWay · 05/05/2024 20:27

@NoIdeaWhyNow interesting, so they're reusable? Could you pop me a link to the type of company/service? Thanks!

Sure. Haven't used them yet so can't vouch for them personally, but online reviews seem positive: https://www.cratehire-uk.co.uk/rent-a-crate/

My solicitor copied me into an email to my seller's solicitor this afternoon which asked them if the proposed completion date of the 17th is suitable for them. I'm hoping this means that my buyers have agreed to the 17th now 🤞🤞🤞

I've been collecting used boxes from work/family since we first sold last August so now have a pretty decent selection!

runningmom · 06/05/2024 07:46

I’m having some removal quotes the end of May. They’re coming to the house to price it up as I need furniture assembly package. I think I’ll pack on my own if they’ll provide boxes. Annoyingly, my stbx hasn’t made any plans for taking and storing the furniture he wants so I’ll have to point out what’s not being removed as well as what is to the removers! I’m also only moving a mile away but on my own with kids and a dog so I need help.
online quoted about £995 but friends who’ve moved recently say it’ll be more like £2k plus. I think it’s worth it.
I probably won’t be moving til August but want to price up now particularly if they get booked up!
Ive sent bags of stuff to charity; given away a garage full of stuff for free on Facebook and I’m keen to start packing but I know that’s ridiculous with possibly three months to go (or less 🤞).
