Which colour curtains?

BA2 · 28/02/2024 08:56

My colour scheme is similar to this, without the yellow and my sofa is more aqua coloured. I have an oatmeal colour on the other walls.

What colour curtains would suit? Dark blue, white, green or something else?!

thanks

Anyone?

I’m not able to envision the combination of dark blue and oatmeal walls and a lighter blue sofa — that sounds like a lot already. But 8 would say something warm to tie things together — it sounds like cool colours in general. Gold? Rust? A warm brown?

There was about 20 mins between your first two messages OP, give people a chance!

Like PP I am struggling to picture your colour scheme from your description, I can't see how an aqua sofa would fit in at all. I agree though something warm- the tone of the floor in that picture (not that colour specifically) indicates that a warm tone will work.

We’ve just moved and the sofa could do with being changed. It’s Hague blue and stirabout on the walls. I got these curtains from John Lewis yesterday but I really don’t think they go, they’re too cold.

Blues and greens seem to be used a lot together lately so perhaps stick with that theme?

I’ve tried to add gold/brass so maybe gold curtains? Might look a bit much?

Yes, curtains too cold and dark. I still think a muted gold, rust or a terracotta would work.

The other problem is finding one’s long enough. They need to be 3m and I can’t afford bespoke.

What about this?

Oatmeal with a geometric teal pattern to complement the colour scheme?

ClematisBlue49 · 28/02/2024 10:04

The existing ones do look a bit dark. @Lizzbear 's suggestion would work well, or maybe just plain oatmeal to blend in with the wall colour, and a plain might give you more options in terms of lengths, as well as being cheaper.

Have you considered making them yourself? I've made curtains successfully before and I'm not brilliant at sewing generally.

BA2 · 28/02/2024 10:16

I got these on eBay, they are teal, do they work?!

What does everyone think of these?

They are too dark for my taste, but if you like that as an accent colour then that's fine, and you just need to add pops of the same or similar colours elsewhere to bring the scheme together.

YouTulip · 28/02/2024 12:05

Definitely the best of those you’ve suggested, but as @ClematisBlue49 says, still rather dark. What aspect does the room have?

ClematisBlue49 · 28/02/2024 13:11

I think I prefer antique gold to rust, if you want a strong colour to go with the teal:

Gold also goes well with grey, if you decided to keep the sofa.

bravotango · 28/02/2024 13:18

I'd go with light oatmeal type colour with a double rail and white translucent ones behind

Revelatio · 28/02/2024 13:32

Would you consider painting the blue wall a different colour? Not sure it goes with the sofa?

Goforitagain · 28/02/2024 13:34

I would go with a light base colour on the curtains to blend with the oatmeal with an optional pattern picking out other colours in the room. I wouldn't go too dark with the curtains

SwedishEdith · 28/02/2024 13:38

ClematisBlue49 · 28/02/2024 09:34

I like how the gold / yellow pops in the picture but not sure if it would work with aqua - perhaps a more muted antique gold?

Or you could try to find curtains with a pattern that brings two or more of the colours together, such as...

https://www.blindsdirect.co.uk/product/iliv-rainforest-lagoon-curtain?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA0PuuBhBsEiwAS7fsNUQffFicB-GnKLA3mXfZzMmxJcdlGNenWLxmb2gNrnyQCiYtkMUWThoCnvUQAvD_BwE

I like these. Solid colour for curtains can just look like a big wall of another colour when they're closed. A pattern breaks it up.

Fhijd · 28/02/2024 14:31

Ours is Little Greene Hicks Blue though, so possible a little less greenish than Hague Blue.

Thanks all, love those two fabrics too.

I’d love some huge beautiful Liberty of London ones….
