Replace large window with smaller one 1st floor flat

1st floor flat, no access to the back of the property unless ground floor flat give permission.

id like to replace a very tall window with one that is shorter so that I can have a kitchen cupboard and worktop under the window. Currently the bottom of the window is only 66cm from the floor.

could this be done from inside the 1st floor flat? Or will I need permission from downstairs and scaffolding?

It depends on the walls... If the opening in the outer wall is wider than the inner wall, then they will need outside access, as I understand it. Best thing is to get a quote or two and they will tell you.

If your wall goes up to 66cm then it needs to go about 30cm higher. So you're really asking if a competent builder/brickie could lay 30cm of bricks (about 3 rows), and do pointing, from inside the house - I reckon the answer to that is yes.

When you have replacement windows, the upstairs is usually done from inside the house.

So I think this can be done without disturbing downstairs neighbours.
