Urg - flies!

Granted, I live in the countryside. But why is my house full of flies?

Every day, there are about 20 new flies. It's much worse in summer! I usher them out via a window, and vacuum up the ones that don't make it.

They all seem to appear upstairs, I've checked all the rooms and there's nowhere obvious they seem to be coming from.

Help!

Cluster flies?

We have terrible trouble with them, they over winter in the window frames and the gaps in the stone walls. They wake up on warm days. I occasionally let off a smoke bomb to kill them off but this is best done on a frosty day as the flies head outside and then die from the cold.

I second cluster flies. There a millions of dead buggers in our loft. Live ones seem to come through the ceiling spot lights into the house. I hate them!

I've Googled and yes they seem to be cluster flies! Will they be getting in from outside then, not hatching inside the house somewhere?

I have a large loft - I've checked and the hatch doesn't fit perfectly well and there's a gap, so that could be where they're coming in from? I'm so fed up of herding them out the window (only to prob come back in again?!) and hoovering them up!

Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth where you think they're coming in. Just don't breathe it in.
