Astonishing - £5 million would buy several castles and/or large estates in other parts of the country.

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 20/02/2024 16:50

The bunk beds are really, really weird.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/02/2024 16:53

There are so many things wrong with it.

  1. hallway opening into the living room - that'll be cold in the winter
  2. bedroom in the cellar - in other words it's a 3 bed
  3. bunkbeds in the hallway - why? How is that practical?
  4. bath in the bedroom - apparently this is very popular in airbnbs and this and the bunkbeds seem very airbnb like.

Meanwhile in the north east you could save over a million and get this: Eggleston Hall, or save even more and get a comparable house in Durham for a tenth of the price.

That place is interesting. It seems to have a large plant nursery and a coffee shop, not to mention the ruined church and grave yard.

Council tax band D 🤣

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 20/02/2024 17:29

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a house with two lots of attached neighbours.

tara66 · 20/02/2024 17:32

It really isn't to everyone's taste and not ''neutral'' - expensive.

commonground · 20/02/2024 17:45

Ooh I really like the 'aesthetic' - quiet luxury/sad beige/earthy tones/pops of colour. Is my vibe. The a/w is lovely.

Lucky them, they are going to make a killing and move to Saltburn-type house with land and orchards where they can pick all the apples they want.

MadeOfAllWork · 20/02/2024 17:53

Yep. Council bands were determined back in the 90s. Also, there is no correlation between the value of houses in each area and the cost of council tax. Hence Westminster having lower council tax that a lot of the rest of the country.

I like the layout (minus the bunk beds in the hallway and the bath in the bedroom, never understand the point of this), it’s very light despite it being quite narrow.
Does feel very penned in though, garden is way smaller than I’d want for the money.
Mind you 5 mill in my area would buy you a decent detached place with 6 bedrooms, a front drive for 6 cars and lots of land!

Yes, it's ridiculous isn't it. Council tax clearly needs an overhaul!

SaturdayGiraffe · 20/02/2024 18:15

Think I have an idea how they urn their money…

GoldenTea · 20/02/2024 18:45

That chess set is doing my head in. No way for it to end up with the pieces where they are! I assume it's for looks rather than use.

Any yes, lots of urns and apples. Otherwise lovely. You'd struggle to spend that much on anything near me.

Quite and no parking (certainly wouldn’t want to be getting the tube or buses if I was that well off). Also in a city with a serious knife crime epidemic.

Nuts!

blackcherryconserve · 20/02/2024 19:05

The decor is yuk.

Beefcurtains79 · 20/02/2024 19:12

You can buy a nice house in much nicer parts of London for £5 million. It’s extremely overpriced.

Startingagainandagain · 20/02/2024 19:14

Completely overpriced.

There is nothing special about the location and the house is decorated in an odd way.

shielder · 20/02/2024 19:15

certainly wouldn’t want to be getting the tube or buses if I was that well off)

plenty of “rich” people get the tube, it’s a highly convenient method of transport 🙄

MorrisZapp · 20/02/2024 19:16

Those bunk beds are absolutely brilliant! What fun for guests if they have kids, I'd have loved that.

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 20/02/2024 19:19

Blimey I'm out of touch with how the other half live. If I think of a five million pound terrace in London I think of something like that Clapham one, which is actually 7 mill.

This one would be nice if I had 5 million and the money to spend on the upkeep of a listed building.

It was also used as the 'finishing school' in the ITV series 'Ladette to Lady'.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 20/02/2024 19:24

“seriously” was my thought too 😂

NewYearResolutions · 20/02/2024 19:32

That’s quite small for 5 million. I look at the floor plan and I can’t work out where to put my two children. One of the bedrooms is in the lower ground floor which I don’t like. The other one on the same level as the master is tiny.

Not a Londoner so I can’t see how this can be so expensive even if it’s decorated beautifully.
