Where to look at moving to if we look at ACS Egham?

Hi

Potentially moving to the surrey area from USA ( we're returning Brit's after 16yrs) and exploring options for schools for 10 and 12 yr old boy and girl. Both love sports and are mid - high in academics.

If anyone has knowledge or experience of the international schools ACS Egham and tasis and their differences - would greatly appreciate some insight.

Being returning Brit's, we are wanting to feel "at home" in a community, but our kids are American, and we want the transition to be as smooth as possible for them.

What are the surrounding areas like to live and where should we look if we plan to go to ACS ?

Thanks for any honest thoughts

Hi, just came to say we are looking into the same thing. Returning Brits, kids 9 and 12 and starting at Egham. We preferred ACS Egham over TASIS, as did the kids, but I’m sure both are great. The schools have an overview of where people live, and much depends on what you are looking for. Eg village life and larger home vs connection with a town. With the oldest being almost a teen, we are looking at the bigger locations.

I live near, drive past both regularly, know 2 teachers who teach there, and everyone I know with dc at either is happy with both!

What is your budget. How long a commuter is your maximum to the school. As pp said depends what you want, a bigger town, a smaller village. Eg Sunningdale is nice but is it too small for your liking?

Hi ideally we want to be no further than 15/20 mins .. we’d like a little bit of both .. a good size home in a villagey area either within a town or close to a town. Have heard about Virginia water, but don’t know what the village is like x

Yes, we had offers from Cobham and Egham. Both were good, and I'm sure the kids would have settled well in both. We decided on Egham because they have the MYP program. There's also a higher percentage of local students which we felt might be a bit less transitory. And the kids liked it better but that was all gut feel! Cobham is definitely bigger than Egham. Both have a shuttle service from the most popular areas. We were in the US, and then in Amsterdam for the last 5 years, so the UK is all new for the kids.

Maybe you’d like Englefield Green, Virginia Water doesn’t have much of a village. Or Datchet.

Hi! We are a family moving to the UK after 19 years in NYC. Our eldest will be attending ACS Egham to continue with IB. Looking for a state school for my 12 yr old, which will dictate where we live within ACS bus zone.

Looking for advice from families who have children in both ACS Egham and a state school - catchment areas Richmond and surrounding (prefer proximity to London) Thank you!!

Planning a move from California to London, flexible as to where we land as school placement is primary consideration. Would love to hear any updates on what you chose, how it's going...I like the look of ACS and TASIS as a relatively soft landing academics-wise for our 13 year old. Appreciate any information, and I hope you are happy with how it all worked out :)
