Neighbour one...

AIBU to find it irritating that every single Monday (without fail) the bloke next door seems to spend hours both morning and afternoon using power tools in his shed and the radio on loud?

The rational me is saying it's fine because it's once a week and that's what it's like having neighbours.

But the irrational me is saying why every single Monday, I'm trying to get my baby down to sleep, and it's really bloody loud!

I've been a bit petty and gone out to my bins down the side of the house and banged them a bit as if to say "hello I am just here"

Is this petty or annoying?

What time is he using them?

If it's at social hours then it's annoying but he's perfectly entitled to use power tools and play the radio in his own home.

You could always go and speak to him and explain? But presumably there will be no better day for him to do it if it's a baby issue. Just count your blessings its only once a week- and at least you know when it is!

It could be every day, and unless he's running a business from his house, there would be little you can do about it I'm afraid.

Be thankful it's only one day per week, even if it is a pain.

I think you should pick your battles.

One day a week is not that bad. If someone wants to be awkward they can be a lot worse than that.

Annoying. We used to have an adjoined neighbour who would decide to use a hammer drill in random 10 minute bursts early on Sunday mornings. No pattern as to why or which Sundays, and he was an ignoramus at the best of times, so we were very glad when they sold and went away.

Also same.neighbours who made us live through their bodged loft conversion (during WFH, and they went abroad) and never muttered even so much as a thank you, or apologise for the noise (which could be heard clearly in every single room of our house), never mind the fact their builders almost went through our conservatory whilst trespassing (which they shouldn't even have been near, never mind on top of).

I still panic when I think about it.

Power tools I can live with but the radio on loud drives me potty.

Maybe monday is his day off and working in his shed is his hobby ?

LoveAHamSandwhich · 19/02/2024 18:11

You could - talk to him?

Rubyreddgirl · 19/02/2024 18:44

A lot of people are selfish
We have had horrendous neighbour's.
In our old house we had the neighbour's from hell both sides,we sold to a vert large family who have a house full of people most days and making a lot of noise.
Apparently our old neighbour's are devastated🤣
Karma

If it's always Monday then you can plan for it accordingly I guess. My asshole neighbour doesn't work (he's an Internet 'entrepreneur' I believe ) and unfortunately I work from home so he thinks its fine to start drilling into his front door on a Monday morning while I'm making phone calls or gets his hammer out at 6pm when I'm chilling out after work with House of Games. No day or time is off limits for him. In that context, having it concentrated into one day would be preferable for me.
