woufmaniac · 17/02/2024 14:19

Hi all,

Please help me choose the best layout or improve it?

Teenage DS15

Facts:
Tiny box room

Built in wardrobe left of door (can't be changed)

Radiator on right wall (can't be changed)

Which version would you go for?
Versions attached

Any other suggestions?

Single bed or small double?
Storage bed?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi thanks for the quick reply!! Sorry I didn't manage to attach them at the first go..!

Not with the window behind me. A.

LotsOfTowels · 17/02/2024 14:30

I agree - A or D makes room feel nicer and bigger. I think a bigger desk is more important than a bigger bed for a teen, so I'd go for D with a storage bed

LotsOfTowels · 17/02/2024 14:31

How high are your ceilings? Could you go for a high sleeper or cabin bed with desk or seating beneath?

Thank you for your reply @KirstenBlest

Yes I would personally also prefer not to have a window behind me..

Do you also prefer the small double (A)
or single bed better (D - in separate post)?

With that size room having a small double might make it feel and look suffocating. We have 90cm single beds upstairs at my parents and we sleep comfortable on them even as adults when we visit.

ColourByNumbers88 · 17/02/2024 14:38

D with under bed storage drawers.

Whoopaday · 17/02/2024 14:40

Raised cabin type bed that blank underneath to give room for a chair/bean bag and desk. Can get raised doubles. As long as you or them are happy to change the sheets that height.

CJ4713 · 17/02/2024 14:40

What rooms are next door? We moved the wall between the box room and the master to make a larger box room. Would this be an option?

HoHoHoliday · 17/02/2024 14:41

Is the room particularly cold? I don't have a radiator on in my bedroom, the room picks up warmth from the heating in the rest of the house.
If not using the radiator is an option I would have a single bed along the radiator wall and the desk under the window.

Otherwise single bed under the window and desk to the right (C?). I've happily/comfortably slept under windows in the past so long as they are double-glazed.

I think a bigger bad is more important than a bigger desk. You can’t put a hulking teen in a midsleeper - you’ll be buying another bed and desk in a couple of years.

woufmaniac · 17/02/2024 14:50

Thank you all!

We just gave away the bunk bed that was in there as DS wanted something a bit more grown up. Otherwise I agree it would have been good. The loft bed is great but ceiling not high enough sadly!

Sadly not an option

I think A but it's your son that needs to decide whether a single or small double is more important to him. It's hard to envision from floor plans, so I'd get him to build a 'bed' with boxes in the room.

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2024 15:00

I'd move the desk away from the bed so there isn't the empty dead space at the foot of the bed.

C with the bed and the desk swapped would work IMO

That does not look like a box room.

itsgettingweird · 17/02/2024 15:05

I'd go for C.

However I'd have an ottoman single or single with drawers underneath for storage.

I'd then have a corner desk with storage space and high back where you have the desk.

SnowsFalling · 17/02/2024 15:05

D
With a divan style bed with drawers underneath - but normal bed height rather than mid-sleeper.
