Our Dream House - best and final today!

As the title suggests.....out dream house goes to best and final offers today. We will be putting in an offer but I'm finding the whole thing a little stressful as I know there are a LOT of people interested.

The house went on the market a year ago and had lots of offers (including ours, which wasn't accepted) but fell through 6 months later. The second time it went on we offered again but someone went big and we weren't prepared to match it as it was a ridiculous offer! Surprise, surprise that fell through and it's back on the market again.

It feels like this is our last chance to get this house. Not really sure why I'm posting, just for a handhold i guess!

Think yourself lucky. Some families are facing eviction by private landlords and you are stressing over a particular house?

Who spat in your bean curd?! OP is allowed to feel as they do whilst experiencing their own life.

It’s tone deaf

Are those families being evicted the responsibility of this OP and their life choices?

Some people can't afford the internet or have computers, and yet here you are online? It's tone deaf.

I have real sympathy for people who are struggling but that doesn't mean that takes away the stress of purchasing a house.

To be asking for “support” when you’re putting in an offer on a house is tone deaf. Some people have got real problems. Still, there’s no such thing as society. Remember?

ElaineMBenes · 16/02/2024 16:05

It’s tone deaf
It's really not.

If I was discussing this with people who were facing eviction then you may have a point but i'm not.

So are people not allowed to talk about anything in case it upsets someone?

You have literally no idea what else might going on in my life...believe me I've lived though my fair share of problems.

This is the property board.
People post about buying houses.

Don't like it, don't click on it. It's really that simple.

Our local vicarage actually matches the timings… is the house in Somerset?

No, much, much further north!

Why are you posting things like this? Yes some people have real problems but that doesn’t mean the op can’t chat about her purchase, just don’t read the thread,

op, good luck. I hope you get it.

Keeping everything crossed for you OP, if it is meant to be, it will be.

ElaineMBenes · 16/02/2024 16:21

I know I shouldn't bite but hey....@DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats has pissed me off slightly.

I have a very personal reason for wanting to move.
My mum was killed by her abusive partner a few years ago. I have struggled with this (obviously) and find anything to do with DV hugely stressful and triggering.
My next door neighbour moved her boyfriend in a year ago. He is abusive and I can hear it though our shared wall. As a result my MH has tanked and I need to move as I feel like I'm reliving what happened to my mum every single day.

Thanks everyone for their good luck wishes. I think it's a long shot but fingers crossed.

I hate the term ‘Dream House’. There are lots of houses around and you will find they all have their pluses and minuses.

You often don’t really know how good a house is for you until a year or so after you have moved in.

The idea of a Dream House before you have lived there makes people overpay and often leads to disappointment.

I agree entirely!!

(Recently moved to our ‘dream house’)

I hope it works out for you. If it is meant and all that…

We tried to buy a large house from the Church of England too. And gave up!

The board of trustees have to consider every decision. No flex at all. We were in a position where we could buy without selling ours, so a very quick sale for them but couldn't agree a price and ended in a position where the trustees expected us to bid against ourselves…the house had been on the market for 3 years, with no interest. We left our offer on the table, it really wasn't worth the extra with all that needed doing and eventually the trustees took it off the market and put another church staff member in it.

Trying to negotiate fixtures and fittings, including a broken, marked unsafe, range oven was also an eye opener. Never again!

This is our worry!
All the signs point to them being difficult.

We're happy with our offer and if it doesn't happen then we have no regrets!
