What to do with these tiles

We want to do up our downstairs loo on a budget..pretty easy to sort most of it but we don't have the funds to pay someone to remove and replace the tiles which are only on the back of the toilet. We've tried painting with tile paint as they are a horrid beige colour but they still look shit. Stick on tiles also liked crap..any other ideas to cover them up? Our diy skills are a bit limited. The rest of the loo just needs wallpaper and painting etc.

You could potentially add some wooden slats to it, so you'd be putting adhesive onto the tiles and adding the slats ontop.
Either simple panelling style wood or shiplap style.
Depends what you're going for with your vibe for the room.

Think the shiplap panelling would look really nice and you can paint it whatever colour you like
