Demolishing conservatory

My husband is talking about dismantling our conservatory, but leaving the roof and replacing the sides with metal posts to support the roof. He wants to do it himself. Is he mad? Should I tell him not to? I'm not even sure if he's allowed. What research should I be doing to make sure he's not going to just destroy our house? He is getting a professional to sort the electrics, but other than that, will do it alone. How do I know if the door leading into the conservatory will be sufficient as an external door?

Thank you and hope somebody can point me in the right direction 😳

What type of construction is it now?

It's wood, but probably 30 years and starting to rot. Is that what you meant?

Yes, I was wondering whether it was a traditional wooden one, or half brick, or the white double-glazed sort. How heavy is the roof? If it is made of glass it will weigh a ton and be really dangerous to work under, in case it collapses.

Might be worth getting a builder in to check whether it is feasible, or whether it would be better if the whole lot came down.
