Found a new ceramic hob that is 1cm wider - will we be able to fit it?

We are having our kitchen re-painted but want to replace the hob, which is currently gas to electric.

Our current gas hob is 58cm x 51cm. The one we have found is 59cm x 52cm. My husband thinks that we need to get a 58cm one otherwise the new one won't fit as the gap under the hob in the worktop will be too small.

Any suggestions as to whether we need to stick at a 58cm one?

Thanks

@Askeif really, was there any need for that! I am not saying people are supposed to know the space in the kitchen, but surely others have replaced their hobs over time and may have some experience on whether it has to be EXACTLY the same size!

Yes you will need your worktop cut to make it fit the new larger hob.

Thank you @OhhhhhhhhBiscuits, I will see if the person who is fitting it can do this for us. Your reply was very helpful, unlike the first response 😁 I appreciate you taking the time to advise me

The hole in the worktop can potentially be enlarged. But do you have space below the surface for the new hob? Look at dimension drawings for it, and compare to the space available.

And do you have a hob-sized electric supply to the location?

Are the measurements you have given for the top or for the space needed for the bottom of the hob
to fit?
