Room Dividers - Bifolds, pocket-doors, "broken-plan" living

I want the best of both worlds - a living room that can bring light into the middle of our house whilst also being able to be snug and cosy in Winter

Thoughts and ideas on whether room dividers like internal bifolds, pocket doors, "barn doors" actually work, or if they're all going to feel like a compromise and I should just decide on either closed off lounge or open plan?

Have attached a floor plan, with the proposed "divide" in red - it's about 3.5M.

We're changing the kitchen/dining configuration so I'm not worried about what I'd do with the "dead space" between the lounge and dining room

If you have flexible closing on your red line, can you actually arrange furniture in the front room without it looking weird?

Personally, if all the back half of the house is going into one kitchen-dining space, I'd put a solid wall in.
