Long living room, TV on chimney breast ideas

Hi. We have a long lounge. The chimney breast is in the middle of the long wall with a sofa opposite, tv in the corner. We're redecorating out lounge and I'd like to put the TV on the chimney breast, thereby freeing up the corner. DH wants to either leave it where it is or have it on a unit next to the chimney breast. It could be viewed comfortably from the settee in any of these places. It would be in a little alcove to protect it from heat if it was on the breast. Does anyone have experience of this. Or photos you'd be happy to share. I can't find any online photos of a chimney breast on the long wall, only a short. Thanks.

I've got a similar lounge / layout in my new place. I won't be putting the TV on the chimney breast as I've removed it, but even if I had kept it I still would have preferred the TV in the corner. Often when I see a TV on a chimney breast I find it looks over-bearing and the room basically becomes a TV / Media room. I prefer to see a large painting that ties the decor together, or a mirror. If you do decide to do it, how wide is the room, and what kind of fireplace do you have or are you planning to have? It would need to be quite a low mantle in order to accommodate the TV, in my view, otherwise you'd be looking up at the TV as there may not be sufficient distance between the sofa and the TV.

My living room is not large and I do have the TV above the fireplace but I got a Frame TV, so it displays artwork when not on.

I think this is down to personal taste. I don't like TV's on walls, I just don't think it looks right and often looks too high up to watch comfortably.

I think there is a certain cohort that put the tv's above the fireplace. And the bigger TV the more lower the class of the person. TV shouldn't be the focus of the room unless it's literally a cinema room.

If you hang a TV above a fireplace it'll be far too high up I would have thought- a TV should essentially be in line with your eyeline when you're sat down, you shouldn't be craning your neck.

Well, you've basically all said what DH says and as I don't really watch TV, I shall not worry about it. Tbh, I don't much like that on the wall either - it was more about space saving. Hey ho. Thanks all.
