Electric Sockets

Help! We need to replace most of the sockets in our kitchen. Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive website to help us find some please? All our sockets are black nickel finish so something similar or maybe a brushed chrome would also work.

Screwfix.

We love corston architectural but they are unfortunately the opposite of cheap. Tend to add one or two every few months when money allows. I’d second screwfix, or check out TLC electrical depending on where you are

Agree with OPs - Screwfix is a good option, or maybe Toolstation? Bought sockets and switches from both in the past, although not specifically in black nickel

PPs, not OPs!

Thanks everyone. The Jim Lawrence ones are gorgeous but I’m afraid our budget is more like Screwfix. I hadn’t thought about Toolstation so that’s a good shout.

I got ours for the kitchen at B&Q.

I got brushed aluminium, but they have nickel and chrome (brushed and otherwise) and they were 11 quid each and do the job fine.

We are in the process of replacing our cheap white ones for brushed antique brass throughout the house, which we ordered from Screwfix. The cost really does add up quickly if you want several of them, but they really do make the space look better!

Go to google.

Type "electrical sockets" search and read.

You can even select the "images" option from the top, which will give hundreds of pictures of different sockets to choose from.

CandidHedgehog · 28/03/2024 11:13

I got mine via the electrician I hired to fit them. Maybe at least worth asking?

iwantabreakfastpantry · 28/03/2024 14:12

Second/third screwfix or toolstation - delivery times are amazingly fast and there are so many around that it’s easy to pop to have a look or return unwanted items.
Tbh, once you have the colour right and they are in place, you won’t be able to tell the difference in quality between the cheaper and most expensive ones.

Local lighting-specific shops are brilliant for this sort of thing and can be very reasonable. But they are closing quickly...
Sussex Lighting in Horsham was brilliant and Summit Lighting in Crawley was very helpful and cheap. Unfortunately, both now gone but I mention so you can Google and look for similar local to you.

Spring Electrical in Leatherhead is good for this sort of thing. But most trade counters, both big and small, are good.
Pop into local trade counters (like CEF, Yesss Electrical, QVS, TLC, and so on) and ask for some booklets with fixtures and fittings in. If you are concerned about going to a trade counter (as some people are) just say your electrician told you to.
Once you find something just get a quote from them.

Please really think about what you need before you commit to a style. For example, if you need network connection patches then make sure they do them in the range you choose. It looks awful when someone has all designer sockets and then a 'close match' or white one in the room too because they didn't check a HDMI port/two gang dimmer/switched spur/etc. is available before choosing.

If you have trouble buying drop me a message. I have accounts everywhere and might be able to help.

Cheers.

TLC, they have lots of choice and will send out stuff so you don’t need to go and get it. They also stock British made at fair prices.

Pombearprincess · 28/03/2024 22:17

Second TLC, loads of choice and very reasonable.

I like the MK edge range, or wandsworth if your more spendy.
