Hi all, recently enquired here about Sharps. But they are not offering the colour I am after, so now looking at bespoke again.

What did you pay for your built in wardrobe?

We're looking at six door wardrobe, and we want quite a few internal drawers, (around 9-13)

3m run, 2.30m height, 62cm deep.

Budget wise probably MDF hand painted

Thank you!

£4k in 2020 from Sharps

Unicorntastic · 05/02/2024 16:13

Ours arent comparable with what you need but the half hearted quote we had from Sharps was pretty much the same as we paid a joiner to build bespoke wardrobes and spray paint them for us.
im so glad we went with a joiner as they are excellent quality and still look new after 5 years.

ClematisBlue49 · 05/02/2024 17:17

I was quoted £1500 per metre across (excluding VAT) for something fairly basic (I'm in SE England).

Heathcliff27 · 05/02/2024 17:18

£5K from sharps almost 15 years ago. Still like new.

Botanica · 05/02/2024 17:30

£3-4k bespoke for something similar

I'm not sure you're looking for this option, but we did made to measure flat pack fitted wardrobes from Online Bedrooms. Fittingly do ones you can paint any colour also. Online Bedrooms was £2k for a floor to ceiling almost 3 m run in the sale. They look great, feel v sturdy, and had a lot of internal drawers and options. They were a pain to build and we had to pay someone to cut and fit the trim as it was beyond us, but it worked out really cost effective

I think you can also pay them to fit them for you, but our room wasn't ready (renovation) so we did it ourselves. Next time I would pay them to fit for sure!

Hi, thanks, was that recent?

Following with interest.

How do you go about finding a joiner? I'm inclined to think the likes of Sharps will look at our awkward chimney breast and sigh.

ClematisBlue49 · 06/02/2024 18:59

@renoparty , yes that is recent (about two months ago).

NB I've decided to go for IKEA PAX wardrobes instead, as my renovation is way over budget already!

renoparty · 06/02/2024 19:02

@ClematisBlue49 thanks! IKEA Pax seems to be quite popular

I am trying to stick to personal recommendations from now on... but it's tricky isn't it!

They are shockingly marked up for what they are !

@Ilovemyshed Do you mean Sharps or Pax?

I know you asked for fitted but have a look at John Lewis Marlow range. Very good wardrobes which come in a variety of colours, sizes and combinations. They are assembled on delivery for you. They have the look of fitted wardrobes.

renoparty · 07/02/2024 11:14

@TinaHerts Thanks, good idea - do you know if they display them in the stores?

I’m firmly in the camp that thinks the prices firms charge for a bit of MDF is outrageous. If not on an outside wall you don’t need a carcass. A carpenter or good all round handyman with carpentry skills will make you something much nicer. Please don’t have mdf unless you have to. No one does in kitchen doors now

Yes they do. I believe it is one of their best selling furniture products. If you look at the reviews on the John Lewis website there are some photos of what they look like in people’s houses.

Helplessandheartbroke · 07/02/2024 13:07

1800 quoted last week for a similar size. If youre around Manchester I can put you in touch :)

mummyh2016 · 07/02/2024 13:07

We paid £2k 3 years ago, that was for a 4 door wardrobe, 2 double over the bed cupboards, 2 single cupboards and 2 bedside tables with drawers. West Midlands, went for a local family run company,

Sharps, Hammonds, Sliderobes. Massively over quote on materials and time.

Merrow · 07/02/2024 21:04

We have Pax shells that a joiner cut to fit in our awkwardly shaped room and made bespoke doors for. Price wise it was a lot cheaper, and I like the flexibility of knowing if we change our mind about any of the shelving/ drawers we need it's an easy fix.

ClematisBlue49 · 08/02/2024 13:19

Thanks @TinaHerts , the John Lewis Marlow wardrobes are nice, and also the Elstra if you like mirrored doors. They might actually work out cheaper than IKEA as the assembly is included. I see IKEA offer installation through Taskrabbit, which has good reviews, but it's an added cost.

Only issue with John Lewis is that they say delivery is 9 weeks, as it's a third party supplier. I'd be tempted otherwise.

Completely agree on Sharps etc. Total rip-off unless you can negotiate the price down significantly.

@Merrow , I agree about the flexibility you get with the Pax system.
