Panic over house sale

Our house currently under offer and has been for twelve weeks with the buyers beginning to talk about moving dates. We are moving to Scotland from NW England, unfortunately our circumstances have changed, I was transferring with my job but that offer is now off the table while my husband who is a teacher cannot find employment in Scoland. Can we delay moving day for a few months or do we need to pull out off selling and any ideas what the cost would be to ourselves, We really don't want to do this but we can't move with no jobs.

Scottish system is very different to England
i would suggest your speak to your conveyancer on Monday to understand the options in full

If you haven’t exchanged, you can pull out and the only fees you will incur is work done by the solicitors so far and the estate agent fees.

If you haven't exchanged contracts on your sale then you'll only be down legal fees/estate agent fees. You might piss people
off but it's only after exchange that the buyer loses their deposit if they pull out.
If you've had an offer on a house in Scotland accepted then I think that is binding and there would be a forfeit.

We're only selling in England and to begin with stay with family in Scotland.

Part of the negotiations when you approach exchange of contracts is the completion date ie the date the sale is finalised. So you could explain your change of circs to your buyers and see if they are willing to stick around. If they're not then that's their decision.

Tbh I think that's the best thing for us it would give us longer to find employment.
