What are value for money places to live in Yorkshire for a growing family?

Hi, I live in Wrenthorpe (Wakefield, West Yorkshire) and I’m thinking of moving to a different place within Yorkshire. As Wrenthorpe is close to Leeds, it’s getting built up. I’d like the place to be a bit greener to have nice walks. Good schools, doctors etc nearby are also important. Harrogate looks great, but is expensive. My budget for a 3-bedroom semi-detached or detached house is 320 000 max. Are there any decent places to live in knowing the budget? Thank you for the suggestions in advance.

Selby. Tadcaster. Wetherby. Otley.

If you want a grammar school, Ripon Grammar is a great school.

Ripon has a cathedral, lots of independent cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops. Walkable to the market square from most areas and to school. Lots of countryside around, river and canal walks.

Where do you need to commute to? If it’s Wakefield I would rule out north Leeds for example.

@Shortbreadfingerss I work from home so I’m quite flexible.

I forgot to mention in my post that I’d like to avoid moving to a place that gets flooded.

I've lived in Ripon all my life, don't remember it ever seriously flooding residential areas.
The rivers can get high, but houses away from rivers would be absolutely fine.
It's a nice place to live.

I’m over towards skipton, a village called silsden. Close to rail links and close to the dales, I love it here.

Some of the villages surrounding Wakefield and towards Sheffield are nice and you will get more for your money here than parts of north Leeds. Holmfirth and surrounding villages such as Shepley, Denby Dale, Honley, Scissett, Skelmanthorpe, Meltham. Close to the Peak District for walks too.

Expanding on what Shortbreadfingers has said, the villages on the border of South and West Yorkshire are all worth a look. Reasonable prices (although increasing), great local facilities and schools. You're really close to the M1 with rail connections too. Just bear in mind that some Kirklees schools still have a middle school system but not in S Yorks.

No, there is an effective flood plain on the edge of the city and new flood defences which work.
When I moved here 24 years ago, my local ( two minute walk) gym was flooded, but never since.
