A + glass 28mm?
North West England does that sound about right?

Sounds very reasonable to me. But I’m in the SW.

DrySherry · 30/01/2024 13:17

I'd be pleased with that price, yes.

NonmagicMike · 30/01/2024 13:31

Bite their hand off if that’s fitted! Assuming standard pvc double doors, you could pay most of that in materials alone let alone a days labour for two blokes.

Yep fitted - all the reviews and feedback look good -local firm - we've had another quote at £1500

What is the difference between French doors and patio doors?

alwaysmovingforwards · 30/01/2024 14:01

Prices seems good. Presume patio doors are sliders. If you're looking at upvc French doors just watch the width per door. They're heavy and will droop on the hinges over time if it's not top quality (or preferably aluminium).

We're awaiting a response on that as we've been told we should have Aluminum rather than upvc, and our old house had upvc French doors so I get what you mean.

I paid £1700 for french doors, wood and double glazed 20 years ago.

SchoolNightWine · 30/01/2024 14:50

I'm NW and paid £1400 for bifold doors about 5 years ago, so that sounds a good price to me. We changed from upvc to aluminium and are really pleased we did.

Could be two ladies if that’s what you’re getting at? Could be one lady one bloke? Could be one man and his dog.

If that’s not the point you’re making then usually putting doors in is a two bloke / woman job, although I’ve installed them on my own before.

The likelihood is that when you engage your local builder to put a door in your house or whatever, a hairy bloke is going to turn up as the vast majority of the trades are men. Could it be a tradeswoman? Sure. Why not. If I said I was seen by a nurse at the doctors last week, you’d likely assume this was a female although there are of course male nurses. Is there a point in derailing this thread into a back and forth about inclusive language? No. I’ll leave it there.

Because the probability of. females turning up to fit windows or doors is very low . There could be women fitters somewhere ? But don’t underestimate how heavy some of the materials are. So its 99.9% certain that its going to be 2 blokes. On how many of the property programs have you seen female glaziers ?
