Decisions for new kitchen

I am having a new kitchen, would you choose waste disposal or water softener.

I have not got room for both so which would you choose and why?

I'm questioning it as I would love both, so want to feel I've got the best in the finished kitchen.

Two adults, very hard water. Have to separate food waste, so have a waste caddy on the side.

I would choose water softener, the reason being the water where I live is very hard and leaves a scum on a cup of tea. If your water is nice, I don't think I'd bother with either, we have food waste recycling here so I wouldn't need a waste disposal.

Could you have the waste disposal in a utility room and water softener in the kitchen?

Neither, and get a wine cooler. 🍷

Same for me.

Also the lack of limescale and ease of cleaning bathrooms farrrrr out weighs waste disposal...

Food waste shouldn’t be going into the water system. It causes problens. My vote is for softener.

@Nellieinthebarn we considered elsewhere but have been told it won't work.

@MrsFinkelstein I don't like wine so definitely not a choice for me

Water softener all day long. We live in a very hard area and it has been amazing. Never understood the point of a waste disposal unit personally.

Food waste definitely shouldn't go down the sink. It will congeal in the drains and you will eventually end up with a blocked drain. Plus it will make your water bills larger if you are on a meter.

Water softener, but I would bypass the drinking water. I don't know how people drink softened water as it tastes foul.
