Area advice please!! Burgh Heath (Tadworth / Banstead)

Hi, we’re looking to buy a home and looking at areas. We have seen a house in Burgh Heath. It looked really nice but we’re not from the area.

Does anyone know the area? Looking for somewhere nice, has a few restaurants/ coffee shops, good schools to raise a family. I know Banstead has a lot and only a short drive but unsure of Burgh Heath, schools etc.

Want to buy somewhere safe. We looked at places in Reigate too. More towards Woodhatch side. How would the area compare?

Thanks!

Tadworth is nice, villagey feel. No pub as it used to be a quaker area. Walton on the Hill is worth a look. Banstead has great facilities and housing stock.

It's a nice area, although maybe a bit no mans land...
How about Earlswood?

LIZS · 27/01/2024 22:38

There is not really much to Burgh Heath, apart from Asda! Banstead is pleasant small town but the station is a way from the town centre, has a Waitrose and coffee shops. For villages Chipstead,Kingswood and Tadworth are ok but have few facilities. There is a newish sports centre at Tadworth. For most amenities you would head to Reigate, Epsom or Coulsdon. Woodhatch/Dovers Green is the less desirable side of Reigate, away from centre and station but better value.

Thanks for the replies. Do you know if it’s a good area for schools? I don’t mind being a 10-20 min drive from amenities around us. We found a home we really love. Just want to make sure it’s a nice, safe area for raising my toddler. Hopefully somewhere where the home will gain value too if we decide to move in the future.

Reigate is lovely if I was to rewind I'd have moved there when kids were younger.

Banstead is really nice but as someone said transport links are poor.

Would you go further out? Oxted is nice and good schools good travel links.

LIZS · 28/01/2024 08:25

Schools in Reigate are good, I know nothing about Burgh Heath state schools. Perfectly safe area though.

Surreyblah · 28/01/2024 08:28

It’s a ‘nothingy’ area and not in catchment for popular schools.

Surreyblah · 28/01/2024 08:45

Schools info is easily available online: it was a key criteria for us

Mama0922 · 28/01/2024 12:32

@Surreyblah thank you. Where do I find this please? I’m not originally from the UK.

@JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome we love Reigate but our budget isn’t quite making it. It’s deciding whether to be on the not as good side and smaller home in there, or more for our money is a slightly further away area..

My work is in Woking (although don’t go in daily) so wouldn’t want to move further in the opp direction

@heybearx I haven’t heard of Earlswood. I’ll take a look, thanks!

Reigate is nice but I would avoid the Woodhatch side personally. As someone else suggested have you had a look at Earlswood? The local schools are good and it is close to Redhill and Reigate so lots going on

Mama0922 · 28/01/2024 13:31

@Peanut91 thank you. Yeah we’ve been told to avoid that side. The house we looked at was nearer to that than Reigate centre.

I will have a look at that, thank you.

Burgh Heath is lovely, open fields and countryside near by.

Its really lovely, great community, countryside, lakes, trainline, redhill 10/15min walk, reigate 5 min drive, good schools, cheaper than reigate. Recommend!!
