I've just discovered how to fix my boiler.

I'm feeling ridiculously pleased with myself. I've had no heating all day except for a very small plug in oil filled radiator. DH is working on a house 150 miles away. He suggested it might be a pressure issue and he'd fix it when he got home. It felt like I was living in the North Pole. I felt like I couldn't wait. I hunted about on YouTube and found a clip explaining how to top up the pressure on an Ideal boiler and it only took 5 minutes and my central heating is now back on. I'm not good with practical DIY so I'm feeling very smug and snug now too. DH will be 😯.

@EarringsandLipstick things are only straightforward when you know how to do them! And it was mean as it was so dismissive of the OP.

I agree. I simply meant that perhaps @PamelaParis was saying it wasn't exactly a significant DIY task?

Re-pressuring a boiler is hardly DIY, it's turning a switch. Confused

I mean, obviously it is DIY in the literal sense but it's not up there with painting a ceiling!

Edited

Mine isn't a switch but several valves, not all in the boiler. Would love to see you try on mine. I can, and have, painted the ceilings in multiple houses. They are very easy to do. Perhaps you should find a YouTube video to work out how not to be mean online. Should be easier than fixing a boiler.

@caringcarer - well done you!!

Well, I usually ask DH to do things or call a plumber but today DH was 150 miles away and as it's the weekend I assumed a plumber would charge me a higher price call out, if I could even get one to come on a Saturday, so I thought I'd have a go. I got the heating working on a cold day so I'm very happy about that. I'll be watching it closely to see if the pressure drops again. As a previous poster suggested there might be a reason the pressure dropped like a leak, although I have not seen any water anywhere it shouldn't be. I've bled the radiators this afternoon too. I'd never done that before either but I had seen it done and I knew we were DH keeps the radiator key. Pamela I've painted a ceiling before in the past. The thing to do is to wear a shower cap to stop any little splats going in your hair.
