Solicitor Response Times

What is a normal length of time for a solicitor to respond to questions/a request for an update? I'm not sure if my solicitor is slow or if I'm impatient! My first sale fell through and I nearly lost my purchase as a result so I'm quite anxious about the whole process.

I am selling and buying and have been surprised how quickly solicitors have moved… wasn’t expecting it. Filled in forms on a Monday. They were sent the same day and solicitor for my buyer was back with inquiries by the Wednesday. If I contact my solicitor, they respond on email the same day.

Ive been involved in quite a bit of conveyancing over the past 4 years, selling 2 properties on behalf of family and moving home myself. Two different solicitors dealt with the family sales and they were both horrendous- it would take constant chasing to get any response at all, everything was unnecessarily slow.
When my DH & I moved we had brilliant solicitors who would respond to emails on the same day 99% of the time and would apologise if they didn't answer until the next day.
Ask around for people's experiences and change if you aren't happy. The process is stressful enough with things you cant change, so change the things you can

Thank you both.

I'm not sure that she's being slow in actually getting the work done. If she needs to contact me, she does so and is responsive to my estate agent. It's more when I have a question about something - it's not unusual for her to take several days to reply which is frustrating.
