50k deposit, 130 mortgage, CANT FIND A HOUSE, Birmingham

Hi everyone,
I live in Birmingham, currently looking to buy a house as I’m fed up of renting. With my deposit and mortgage in principle I can afford a property around 180k. However I can’t find a property in that price range in Birmingham!! To have saved so hard, and work a full time job, but still not being able to buy a house is so disheartening. Any advice or support or anyone care to share how they got onto the property ladder?

I bought a flat. Surely that's the obvious compromise.

Look at Dudley, Stourbridge, Cradley

£170k max budget, houses only and in Birmingham area comes up with 175 results on Rightmove. Exclude any buying schemes and retirement properties.

It's closer to 2000 if you include flats.

Depends where you want to live, and what condition the house needs to be in?

So after a lengthy search in the Black Country last year for a family member, I understand your frustration. Unfortunately that amount of money won't get you much - unless you go for a fixer upper, like we had to in order to afford Stourbridge. We did notice Dudley and surrounding areas to be most reasonably priced - but of course not the prettiest.

There are houses in that price range in Erdington, Kingstanding and Great Barr. If you search Great Barr there’s a nice one in Birkenshaw Road, which isn’t a terribly area.

There are definitely houses for sale at that price in Birmingham.
So: area, size, condition need looking at to see where you can compromise to get what you are after.
