Has anyone redone a loft conversion

Interested in offering on a house, but the loft was done a number of years ago and has a few issues.

  1. Looks a bit old from outside
  2. Ceiling slightly low
  3. Tony en-suite, husband can't stand on the shower

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace a dormer with a slightly higher ceilinged one?!

It will be possible, it will not be cheap.

It could depend on the existing roofline on the road and if you'd want to be going above that, some councils won't allow it.

As above. You may need to drop the ceilings below to gain the extra height, which means robbing Peter to pay Paul. Plus it’s a huge amount of disruption, dirty and messy and noisy. If you are able to have the roofline raised, that would mean you gain space overall, but as a pp said, may not be permitted. Either was you’ll need to redo walls, either floors / ceiling below or ceiling in loft, and redo a certain amount of the electrics and plumbing. Then the plastering, painting etc. My tiny loft conversion in SE London last year worked out as costing over £80,000 all in. Just something to consider!

Oh wow! I did a big loft conversion in east London two years ago and it was 45k!

Yeah, the post Covid price rises are terrifying! A friend a a few roads away did their huge loft conversion with the same company five years ago for half what it’s cost me to do a tiny one! I’m a bit gutted about it tbh!

Bloody hell! My large loft conversion including bathroom 18 years ago was 20K, including a pine floor. Spectacular price rises!
