I know nothing about toilets!

Well, I know a bit more about toilets today but wondering if anyone can help.

My toilet was taking ages to refill and made a lot of noise. I popped open the cistern and found the white tube was floating in the water. Now it looks like that is called the "refill tube" and it seems to slot quite nicely on to what I believe to be the overflow tube, put perhaps i am wrong. I think the refill tube then should attach to the black structure with the blue lid. There is a small hole in it where water squirts out every time I attempt to do this - I will turn the water off tomorrow but it seems the white tube has to do some mighty twisting and turning to get to the place that I THINK it attached to (i am not sure but it seems to make sense. When I flushed the toilet water squirted like crazy out of the black/blue part. When I have attempted to bed the WHITE tube, it seems to bend the overflow tube which doesn't seem right.

MANY THANKS IF YOU ARE STILL READING. Any help welcomed.

No expert here but slow refilling loos really annoy me. Does this help? If it is not this type of loo cistern try searching for "uk fix slow filling cistern" and scroll through until you see a setup similar to yours.

Probably muck or lime scale in the valve, the thing that the water squirts out of is the filling valve.
If it's coming out slowly then it probably needs removing and cleaning. Simple job for a handy person or a plumber.

It's coming out very fast. I think the problem with it taking ages to fill was to do with the ball valve level. I am more interested to know where I connect the white refill tube. Would it be to the filling valve where the water is squirting out?
