Hello hive mind!
Two years into our house reno and we're finally at a stage of tackling the 1980s burgundy carpet that's in our hallways and stairs. We're slowly learning to speak carpet types, but find it really unhelpful when tradespeople/salesmen give conflicting advice over what kind of carpet is best for heavy use areas like stairs. Example being:
Person A (major carpet retailer) said we want a twist carpet for stairs as this is more durable (quote is £1650).
Person B (independent family business) a few days later took one look at the sample from Person A and said that will flatten and show tear really quickly, he wouldn't recommend using twist carpet. What we need is a heavy domestic grade saxony carpet as they're more tightly woven. (quote is £1200 and we prefer the look of this carpet aesthetically but are a bit worried as we haven't heard of saxony carpets being typically used on stairs or hallways? Google suggests they're more for bedrooms? ) But person B has hundreds of 5.0 star reviews on both Facebook and google so that would suggest they're trustworthy... ?
If there's anyone who's used a saxony carpet for either hallway or stairs and feels up for feeding back that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks 😊
