Where to live for easy commute to London once a week?

Hi everyone!

My husband has a job in London. We are a family of four and are looking for a 2 bed property to rent for a maximum of £1150. Is that realistic for a town/city near London that my husband could easily commute from once a week? (Rest of week is wfh)

Thanks so much

Whereabouts in London does he need to be?

JustAnotherKingCnut · 09/01/2024 14:53

Somewhere around Grantham.

It doesn't sound close but the station is easy to park in and trains are regular and 1hr 10mins ish into London. Wouldn't want to do it everyday but once a week is definately do-able.

Leighton Buzzard is 30 mins by train to Euston and relatively affordable - we have friends with kids there and they love
it

Don’t forget to factor in train fare 👍

GreenFrog13 · 09/01/2024 15:02

If its only once a week, anywhere on the main train line from London to York! (around 2 hours so, doable for once a week!)

I would look at the train routes out of Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street (both near the Gherkin) and then think about what constitutes 'easy' - 30 mins on the train, an hour, or an hour and a half?

If it's the latter you could look as far as Norwich which is lovely and not that expensive property-wise. Or you could look at places like Bishop's Stortford though you might have to stretch the budget a bit. Basically Essex/Suffolk/parts of Norfolk.

Diss is a lovely area and on the main London to Norwich line.
