How to replace gas hob?

I have a very old gas hob that needs replacing. I’d like to install an induction hob, in part for safety reasons.

question is, where to start? I am presuming electrician, is this right? Or another kind of tradesperson? What happens to the current gas supply?

google not showing up much, I would have thought this was really common!

You'll need a gas engineer to cap the gas and remove the hob, and then you'll need to make sure you've got the right electrical capacity to power the kw of the hob and have an electrician install the new hob (answer from DP who is an electrician).
