Hi, does anyone have painted kitchen cabinets and can give any advice as to how robust they are with a young family in terms of paint chipping please? Many thanks!

My cabinets chipped easily using Frenchic, as did a friends. She raved about it when she did hers so I did mine. I had to repaint within months and I don’t even have young children. She then later said hers chipped too and her DC are young adults.

DSis painted hers using a different cupboard paint (johnstones or Cuprinol or something) and hers are scratched and chipped too, her youngest is 14.

I did mine with frenchic (use alfresco) and it hasn’t chipped at all! I did it 3 years a go and I couldn’t be more pleased to be honest. But then it was AWFUL before! I wouldn’t paint a nice kitchen only one that needs to be replaced but you need time to afford to do it

We had our sprayed with F&B. 9 years in and the only chips are areas where we have banged something hard on it regularly - eg the cupboard where we keep the metal food recycling bin.

I wouldn't take that as an endorsement of their current paints though, since some furniture we had done in another room chips when you look at it.

We did ours a couple of years ago with Frenchic alfresco and it still looks really good, hardly chipped at all.

Just done ours this year.

The kitchen supplier recommended Little Greene paints for performance. Go for their Intelligent Satinwood for it's durability and ability to clean. Make sure you use their Intelligent ASP Primer too.

As with all painting the surface preparation is key.

We used water based eggshell and there’s no chips nearly two years later. I can wipe them no problem. I rollered them after cleaning, sanding and priming. They’re real wood veneer. Other furniture painted the same way has chipped but only with heavy knocks or scrapes, or repeated hand contact eg stair rails.

I previously painted laminated cabinets and it was much less effective but easily touched up and worth it for the interim.

I have painted and no chips 13 years later. Wear marks around the handles though.

Moved into a house with a painted kitchen - it's farrow&ball shade but unsure whether it was a dupe or not. There were a few chips -I got a very fine paintbrush and filled in the chips with the dead flat paint - it's barely noticeable.
