Show me your kitchen island, please!

Planning one that is 1700 by 1200. Units are 900 but 300 overhang needed to sit comfortably. I like the waterfall style of worktop all over but it's very expensive. I'd like to see if side boards would work and just have worktop on top? Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance. And yes, messy counter tops are allowed!

Had ours done earlier this year, and I remember being told by the fitter when he came to measure up that you pay by the length, as it comes in standard widths.
So it may not cost more to have it wider than you planned. We had the base units, which had already been supplied, set further apart with a gap between.
The only problem is that I'm a bit too short to reach from one side to the other 🤣

Are you planning to use sideboards? Back to back?

Freshair1 · 29/12/2023 18:11

I guess so?

This is mine. Breakfast bar is wood with cupboards under. It’s over 3m long and around 1300 wide with units on both sides. I have another big double ceramic sink and 2 more ovens. Top is granite. Always have lots of space around the island. Don’t squash it in and leave enough room for chairs at breakfast bar. Don’t forget sockets and charging points.

Amazing! May I ask how you made the island? As in, order specific end pieces? As far as I understand it, the planner adds everything on automatically but yours are wider than the units. If that makes sense.

Also, what worktops have you got?

OP posts:
Karlsonn · 29/12/2023 20:00

3 x 600 drawer base units, 2 x island end panel 900 x 900 and island/peninsular backing panel 900 x 2m which was cut down to length of cupboards. Oak worktop from Worktop Express and quartz called Calacarra Golf from local supplier

Freshair1 · 29/12/2023 20:02

So did you have to order the end panels and backing panel separately?

OP posts:
Karlsonn · 29/12/2023 20:13

Yes, I think we took off the end panels that were put on the drawer units and then added the larger size ones

Thanks. I'll have another (a millionth) look at the planner and see if I can order it as such.

I figured it out! Went on the planner and got configure up. Makes the side panels whatever size you want! Hooray!
