Eufy Wireless doorbell works brilliant indoors but terribly outside

We bought one in the black Friday sale but it just doesn't seem to work very well!

We trialled it in the lounge while we were waiting to install it. Absolutely fantastic. Picked up the motion every time someone walked into the room, every time they walked around. Brilliant. And this was whether it was straight on to the living room door, or at a 30-45 degree side angle. Superb.

We now have it facing the garden path/ side wall of house, and it just isn't picking people up.

I have tried various combinations of:

  • Activity zones - moving them around
  • Human detection vs All motion
  • Increased/decreased sensitivity

It is marvellous at picking up double decker buses going by L-R, and people walking on the pavement L-R! It is terrible at catching people open our gate and walk up the path!

Before I write it off and send it back, can anyone help?!

The postman has just arrived, walked up the path, posted letters, walked away, no motion alert from the doorbell whatsoever!

Anyone?

Following this, as we have been thinking of getting one.

I’m sad to say, it’s terrible. Today we’ve had constant alerts for buses and pedestrians in front of the house

However I got no alerts whatsoever for the milkman, two delivery drivers, the postman, DH leaving/coming back from work, or me leaving/returning to the house.

I have again played around today with Activity Zones, privacy zones, human only vs all action detection, still no joy.

And it’s a shame because I am loathe to pay a monthly subscription to Ring.

And I love that the storage is local.

and it worked beautifully inside the house!!

why won’t it work outside?!

I don't know why yours isn't working, we have one and it's great, ignores cats, foxes and bin lorries, picks up people, gives an alert and a headshot. Ours is connected to the homebase because we have other cameras working alongside it, is yours the one that just talks to the plug in chime?

SgtJuneAckland · 20/12/2023 18:41

FWIW I've found their tech support very good, we have expanded our system in stages

ScoobyDoesnt · 20/12/2023 18:54

I’ve got one, and security cameras, and have none of the issues you describe! Picks up everyone walking up the drive without issue.

abbse · 20/12/2023 19:19

@ScoobyDoesnt and @SgtJuneAckland do you have your cameras flat against the wall or at a 15/30 degree angle?

We used the wedge to install it at an angle, that way we can see the edge of the door in the right of the frame. If we had the doorbell flat against the side of the door then we wouldn’t be able to see if someone is posting it through the door.

But, in using the wedge, there is a wall in the view and I’m wondering if that’s the problem. Like, does it only work if people are approaching it head on? I’ll try to do a diagram.

Mine is at a slight angle across the door, but more due to there being a wall adjacent to / perpendicular to the door.

See diagram to try and explain!

So this is how it is currently. 30 degree wedge lets us see the whole path from the door at one edge of the frame all the way to the end of the path and the road. So obviously there’s a lot of house side wall in the frame. I’m wondering if that’s causing an issue.

But if we attached it flat to the wall next to the door then you can’t actually see your visitor if they are standing right outside the door can you, there’s a bit of a blind spot.

But it would mean the side wall would be at a different angle and people would walk straight towards the doorbell. Maybe then it would work?

I am desperate for this to work!!
