Brass handles and stainless steel tap?

Flymeaway4 · 18/12/2023 17:31

Currently designing our kitchen and had planned on either brass or brushed brass handles for the cabinets, although haven’t decided on the exact ones yet. However, we also want a quooker tap and they don’t appear to come in brass/brushed brass (they have antique brass, but that looks too dark for what we were after). Will it look odd to have a stainless steel tap with brass cabinet handles? Or do I need to rethink the handles (and therefore cabinet colour!).

I think it will look weird. Antique brass poss less weird. Have you tried samples?

Flymeaway4 · 18/12/2023 17:44

No samples yet. Some photos may help; this would be the brass tap (it’s actually called patinated brass, not antique) and I liked handles like this. I don’t think they’d go together either. Perhaps I’m back to the drawing board….

I'd stick with the yellow metals or silver metals. Mix some other brass colours in if you're worried about the contrast. It's better than chrome and brass, imo.

I have a copper sink and tap, brass handles, brass switches / plug plates. Other bits of yellow/red metal, no silver in the kitchen and diner. It works well as they're all mellow and not shiny.

These will go better than brass handles and silver tap, but yeah, I think they all need to be a similar coloured metal. This is one of the main reasons we just went with silver in our last house, bc most things are silver. We had an open plan place so the door handles also had to be a similar colour and then other appliances and it just kinda turned into a nightmare. In our new house we are going with the black quooker flex and modern, handleless cabinets, then the few flecks of silver here and there don't seem so off. Maybe the black tap and brass handles might look ok?

I have bright brushed brass handles and a stainless steel boiling water tap and it looks great. I went for it as I decided there are bits on my oven that are stainless steel and I've never been bothered by them. Everyone who comes in my kitchen says wow your kitchen is lovely, not why is your tap stainless steel Grin

I have this combo and I worried just like you but honestly don’t notice it now.

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 19:27

As @headcheffer says, stainless steel oven and extractor hood. They seem quite separate.

Fleur405 · 18/12/2023 19:30

I have brushed brass cabinet handles and a stainless steel tap. Like a pp I initially agonised over this and then realised oven and microwave and extractor are all silver as is the handle on the wine fridge. Honestly it’s never bothered me!

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 19:30

I worried black would show limescale as we have hard water. Can send a photo.

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 19:34

Also is your sink stainless steel or ceramic?

dastidlydaschel · 18/12/2023 19:41

Will look fine. We have antiqued copper kitchen cupboard handles with stainless steel tap cooker and fridge freezer. My kitchen is fabulous!
Happy to DM you photos!

Try Perrin and Rowe. Variety of hot water taps styles and finishes.

Interesting, when you said brass handles I imagined library drawer type ones rather than a brushed brass look

SummerSazz · 18/12/2023 19:50

We have these handles/pulls/knobs which would go well with the darker tap

allhandlesandpulls.co.uk/3922-shell-handle-aged-brass.html

allhandlesandpulls.co.uk/urua-knob-antique-brass.html - we had Beslag knobs but they don't seem to have them now. These are close but not as nice!

Helenahandkart · 18/12/2023 19:54

My kitchen has a mixture of polished lacquered brass, which is very shiny and golden, and unlacquered brass which has aged. The two finishes look good together. I wouldn’t throw chrome into the mix though.

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 19:55

Sink is full of dishes so no photos but you get the idea with splash back and handles.

Love the Quooker brass tap and think that colour is much nicer than the bright brass. I'd try to buy antique brass handles to go with the tap.

I think it's fine to mix metals in a kitchen (or bathroom) and have seen great examples of this online. Some interior designers prefer to mix metals rather than look to 'matchy'. Just don't go overboard with too many different finishes or more than two tones. I love this:

Mix metals in the kitchen can, and should be done! Here's how to get it right when it comes to your hardware, lighting and plumbing fixtures. Yes, you can mix brass with nickle, with chrome or black finishes

Mixed metals are fine. It’s not a problem at all. I have unlaquered brass handles and tap but my everhot lids and handles are stainless steel

Flymeaway4 · 18/12/2023 23:20

Thanks so much everyone, lots to think about and great advice. Hadn't considered the black tap, or that the ovens will have steel elements too (no separate microwave or extractor in our kitchen though).

You might be right about not wanting to be too matchy matchy either.

Thanks again!

Hiya,
we are currently having this exact dilemma!!! What did you do int he end?

Flymeaway4 · 30/01/2024 15:09

Still not decided I’m afraid!

Katykatiekin · 30/01/2024 20:26

Oh gosh. It’s so difficult isn’t it!! We LOVE the bright brass for kitchen handles!! Why can’t quooker just make one to match!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Vikingmama79 · 30/01/2024 22:04

Another one having the Quooker tap and brushed brass handle dilemma. That bright gold one they do just isn’t for me ! Anyway we have decided on black for the tap as ties in with ovens and hob. Having a steel one in the utility , largely as only just realised that’s what kitchen guy has included as I’m done making decisions now so just going with. If it clashes with the brass ah well !

Flymeaway4 · 31/01/2024 07:05

I think we may have decided to get a qettle tap instead. Still 100C boiling, but much cheaper and has a brass option.
