Hi, I'm currently living in Hebburn been here 6 years.
I lived over the other side around fenham areas all my life apart from now 👀
We're currently looking into moving we have seen a house it looks lovely but it's in North Shields NE29 Wallsend road to be precise. Now I'm not too sure what the area is actually like.
I'm married with 3 children&pregnant my children are of mixed ethnicity.
Does anyone have any advice/experience of the area?
There is also a house in byker area Alfred Street... any input will be greatly appreciated 🙂

I would think both North Shields and Byker are more ethnically diverse than Hebburn? I used to cover Hebburn in a previous job, and lived in Newcastle for 10 years, I'd say those areas are all fairly similar but no direct experience of living in Byker or Wallsend

I agree, Hebburn is starting to get a bit more ethnically diverse, but west end areas are most definitely much more and have been for many years. I'm the same I've no direct experience in those areas apart from when growing up byker was deemed as an area you'd not want to live in.
Things change, areas change. But I really don't know anything about the North shields area the road itself according to maps is sort of in the middle of Percy main, Meadow well and Chirton.
It is a long main sort of road aswell.

Parts of North Sheilds are nice. Meadowell and Percy Main not so much.

Do you happen to know of Wallsend road? Thanks

Is that a main-ish road? I don't really.

But what I would do is go over there a few times at different times and see what it's like. Go to the shops there, look around the school if you need schools. Or at least go on the school websites and see if you can read the newsletters as that's a good way to of finding out actual information rather than just looking at the homepage.

Zoeykh · 17/12/2023 10:42

It is a main type of road quite a long one too.
That's a great idea about the schools, will do that thank you.
Definitely going to go into the shops nearby too!

Personally I'd stay away from Meadowell, Percy main.
North sheilds on the other side of the coast road are nicer areas.

Byker, id stay away from aswell.

What's your budget?

Soapboxqueen · 17/12/2023 11:57

It wouldn't be my first choice of location.

At the very least I'd be looking at east of billy mill avenue

Which I appreciate may not seem that it would make a massive difference but it does.

North Tyneside isn't massively diverse in general but maybe more so in Wallsend.

Zoeykh · 17/12/2023 12:12

I'm just so stuck honestly.
The schools I've looked into dont seem to be the most diverse either.
Wish we could move but keep them at the same school.
We need to go over numerous times a week before making a decision, the only reason I feel slightly comfortable with the Wallsend road one, is that it is on a main road.
Which maybe I do need to look into if that's the only reason, maybe not the best place for us.
I'd much rather be in Jesmond, Heaton, even Fenham areas. Which is proving difficult.

Are you renting or buying?
