Aluminium / Steel Crittal style windows - How much!?!

We have a lot of glass in our house design but I'm shocked that I've just received a quote for the installation of windows to our extension and the replacement of windows and doors to our existing house at £100k! 🤯 If you've had crittal style windows/doors installed recently, please could you share roughly how many and how much it cost? Also if you have any recommendations of companies who either operate nationwide or are based in the North, I'd be really thankful!

We had original single pane crittalls in our house. We've removed & replaced with aluminium double glazed, just couldn't justify to cost to do like for like. It still has the slimline look which we needed as some of the windows are actually quite narrow. They were significantly cheaper than crittal replacements, still a lot costlier than upvc. You can shop around & we haggled for a more reasonable price.

I would expect to pay around 3k per square metre.

We looked at having some internal, single pane Crittal french doors replaced (they were the original 1960s ones) and were quotes £11k, so £100k not a surprise!

I think our architect may have missed our brief in that case as surely almost half of our overall reno budget shouldn't be spent on windows 😬

Try Marlin windows in Keighley, west yorks. They did our windows for our renovation, lovely slim framed aluminium with any ral colour.

We’re in the South and used Metherm Windows when we replaced our single pane Crittals. It was 13k to do an average 4 bed in 2021. You should hopefully be able to find someone more local supplying slimline metal windows.

Thank you! I will give them a call for a quote.

I had the shock of my life when i got a quote from Crittall, but I couldn't settle for aluminium i can pick them a mile off, they feel and sound different to reall steel, and i just dont like something masquerading as something else if you know what i mean. At the last minute our carpenter recommended a company who had stock items which was lucky because we had steel doors on site in less than 10 days, we also had them make a few custom windows which arrived shortly after, they were really inexpensive, & they have the prices on their website. They're called Stenze.com. I was thrilled with them.

@MsFunLunch That's a good lead, thank you. Their doors look beautiful! If you can remember, price-wise how much extra should one expect for the added double glaze glass?

MsFunLunch · 02/05/2024 10:48

@Yulisees my husband told me it was approx £100 a sqm for the glass, I hope that helps? We used this company https://stevenage-glass.co.uk/ We had the glass delivered and our builder did the actual glazing - putting in of the glass, if that makes sense! Also I'm having a bespoke steel door made for my powder room and I'm going to use aged mirror instead of clear glass. I can't wait!

Hi @MsFunLunch we are thinking of going with Stenze but our builder is really apprehensive about installing crittal doors for some reason. We’d love to know how you’re getting on with your doors from Stenze and if you’d still recommend them.

thanks

Oh I really recommend them, they're the feature of our whole extension. That's really annoying they're giving you push back. Our builder was fine with installing Crittall style doors but gave me push back on other things. When he did that I always took it as a sign I was on the right path 😂. I think you'll love them, super gorgeous in person and in photos.
