Help me re-pressurise a boiler!

I’m at my parents’ house, and their boiler pressure needs to be topped up (so I can bleed the radiators and make it less Baltic!). I can’t work out how to do it! There are no taps on the filling loop, it’s not got a special key, and there’s no lever on the valves. It’s a Worcester Bosch boiler, and those are the three options they give me for topping it up.

What am I missing?

Good chance it’s near the cylinder

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 16:22

It’s definitely not with the cylinder. My mother says it’s with the boiler, plus the random crap tucked in beside the tank hasn’t moved in years!

Ok… the copper pipes to the left and right will lead you to it. The one dead centre is gas so disregard that. Follow the other two pipes and you will find a silver (probably) braided hose attatched to another pipe.

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 16:28

I found the braided hose. What I don’t have is the levers on it - there aren’t any! Do I muck about with something else instead?

It should be in the boiler instructions, if there aren't any, if you Google the model no. They should be online

4naansjeremy · 02/12/2023 16:30

The OP’s boiler doesn’t have an integral filling loop. It is fitted somewhere on the system pipework

4naansjeremy · 02/12/2023 16:31

I’ve just seen it in one of your pictures.

4naansjeremy · 02/12/2023 16:33

Take a clearer picture of this….

Hopefully this is clear enough.

Flat head screwdriver in the horizontal slot here and quarter turn it to let water in. There maybe another valve the same at the other end of the silver hose which will also need turning. Top up pressure to 1 bar

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 16:52

Thank you, but sadly that doesn’t seem to have worked. The boiler seems to be running on next to no pressure anyway, so I might just need to leave it for now and make sure they call someone out. There is at least some heating (the garage is fucking freezing though).

Take a picture that shows all of the silver hose. Come on! One last try! I’m invested now and I have three actual real life boilers to fix!

AnnieKayTee · 02/12/2023 16:57

My boiler is very similar. There's a grey square thing on the underneath that we turn for the pressure.

buddhasbelly · 02/12/2023 17:02

@PenCreed you said north of Scotland - if you happen to be in Inverness I’m happy to pop round for moral support / putting my arms on my hips and saying hmm if that’s any use??

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 17:03

😆
ok, last attempt! The horizontal bit at the bottom of the pipe didn’t turn when I tried it with the screwdriver (which was bizarrely in the cutlery drawer)

It's probably just got a bit too much limescale, try jiggling it back and forth.

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 17:09

It is indeed Inverness. I might move on to drinking the parents booze stash (that they never touch) at this rate.

Scrolling down I'd taken a screenshot and was about to say on mine it is this bit, but having got to the end it seems like that's been identified.
Mine is the screw head bit, turn with a screwdriver.
Looks like there is one at each end of the braiding (mine has 2) and they both need to be open.

buddhasbelly · 02/12/2023 17:12

It is BALTIC here OP - genuinely if you’re up visiting and don’t know anyone up here I’d be happy to pop round and try and help.

Feel free to DM or alternative plan of drinks cupboard may be your best option!

Chasingsquirrels · 02/12/2023 17:13

These 2. Probably need to be vertical.

You are all HEROES. DH has managed to get the bottom screw to turn and it’s working!

Still raiding the booze cabinet.

Hooray!

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/12/2023 17:20

Make sure you turn it back! Don’t want to overfill it

Goddammit! I was just coming on to say it’s definitely that one and send you a pic of mine which is identical. But it’s solved already! Happy for you though.
