Help me re-pressurise a boiler!

I’m at my parents’ house, and their boiler pressure needs to be topped up (so I can bleed the radiators and make it less Baltic!). I can’t work out how to do it! There are no taps on the filling loop, it’s not got a special key, and there’s no lever on the valves. It’s a Worcester Bosch boiler, and those are the three options they give me for topping it up.

What am I missing?

Can you post a few pics or Google the model. PigletJohn may be able to help

HavingToStartAgain · 02/12/2023 15:19

You’ve removed the cover?
Maybe post a picture and the model number and someone might be able to figure something out.

My Worcester Bosch the key is on the underside of the white plastic panel that slides on the bottom of the boiler, how old is the boiler?

DurhamDurham · 02/12/2023 15:20

Post a pic and we'll have a look Smile

This, our old one was the same.
With the location of the boiler, finding it was done by touch rather than sight.

Sweep79 · 02/12/2023 15:22

Mine is done with a screwdriver in a very tricky location. And you can't see the dial while you do it!

TheChosenTwo · 02/12/2023 15:22

Ours has got a wheel thing right underneath and I just spin it until the dial moves up to 2.

plumtreebroke · 02/12/2023 15:23

There will be a valve, ours has a lever on it that you can turn it on with, but if you didn't know where it was it would be difficult to spot ours is on the right of the water tank and arms length back (surrounded by other pipes) probably depends on the plumber exactly where it is ours is all in a very confined space. It must be on the water inlet, but that probably doesn't help! Can you contact your parents to ask where theirs is?

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 15:27

My parents don’t know! My dad can no longer cope with this sort of question and my mum has never been able to access the boiler due to disability and it being in the garage.

Here are some photos. All help appreciated - it’s -2C in the north of Scotland and the only properly working radiator is in the spare room!

Our Worcester Bosch has got a separate key thing and it's underneath the boiler where you fill it. The key may be in a drawer and not with the boiler

HappyHamsters · 02/12/2023 15:37

Can you take a pic of under the boiler. Does the front lower flap come off.

Daftapath · 02/12/2023 15:37

My boiler is very similar, a few extra knobs on the front.

The small blue lever is under the boiler (so photo taken as though looking up underneath it).

Flip the lever down and you can hear water going into the system.

Watch the dial move (to the right of the 57 on my photo) on the front of the of boiler as it fills.

No small blue lever!

Daftapath · 02/12/2023 15:39

I think there is a cover on the bottom of the boiler usually. Mine is removed!

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 15:39

No small blue lever!

Damn!!

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 15:41

Underside of the boiler

In this instance, I think I would pay someone to come and do it and show you what to do!

catin8oots · 02/12/2023 15:44

Has anyone @PigletJohn yet?

Janie13 · 02/12/2023 15:45

That's the same as mine. It has flexing pipes underneath, the top up tap or screw (on mine) is on the top section of flexing pipe & when you turn it you can hear the water flowing. Make sure to close it after.

Applebeard · 02/12/2023 15:49

Daft question but: Is it in the loft? We've got the same boiler - but there's some sort of expansion tank thing in the loft which has the valve lever on it (and a dial).

PenCreed · 02/12/2023 15:52

It’s in the garage. But there’s a tank thing in the house! I’ll go look at that..

OP posts:
PenCreed · 02/12/2023 16:16

Tank is just hot water so that’s no help. My mum reckons it’s something on the boiler that should be easy but doesn’t know what. I’d be tempted to get someone out but I’m only here for the weekend and there’s no chance my dad will be able to understand someone telling him how to do it for the future.

there will be a filling loop somewhere on the system where there is a mains water pipe close to boiler/heating pipework. Take a wide picture of the hot water cylinder and associated pipework
