Draughty New Velux Windows

Beithe · 29/11/2023 10:24

We have recently had a thermal heat loss survey conducted.

It revealed that none of our new triple-glazed Velux windows are airtight. They are leaking between the frame and the window (I.e. where they open) as well as at the inner seals. At the coldest point there was a 5 degree difference in temperature!

We are waiting for a Velux technician to come out and inspect, but that won't be until January.

We've tried sealing them with draught proofing strips but it's not terribly effective.

Does anyone have any good ideas for more effective temporary solutions? Airtight insulating tape looks like a good option but for the fact that it forms a permanent bond!

Thanks

Just get some duct tape for now if it’s only a temporary solution.

Thanks. I had a slight concerns about whether duct tape might be difficult to get off.

It will. But most sticky things will unstick with wd40.

Yes it does leave a very sticky residue as its such a strong tape. As said above wd40 will remove it and wont damage them. Do you have the white ones or wood finish ? It might not be a good idea on the wood finish ones .

Electricians tape might be easier to get off.

Does water leak in?
