Does anyone know of a good UK template or example that we could adapt? I can only find US ones when I google. We are on the verge of buying a property to renovate for our disabled son and need to estimate costs. Thanks in advance.

I couldn't find anything that met all of my needs, so I built my own. If you can do look-ups and pivot tables it's pretty straightforward. The key elements were:

1. Budget Schedule showing your total budget (including contingency), broken down into categories (e.g. Main Build, Flooring, Window treatments etc.). Columns added to show subtotals and budget remaining as money is spent. You can either update the budgeted amounts if they change, or add a column for Latest Estimate if you want a record of the original numbers.
2. List of expenditure with a column to show each item, category and amount.
3. Pivot table which updates the Budget Schedule and item 4 (below).
4. (Optional) A table showing how much you have spent, vs how much you expect to spend, set against your available finances, so you can see whether you are on track.

If you don't need that much detail, I think I recall that the Fifi Mcgee Renovation site had some free resources, including budgeting templates that might help.
