Estimated costs to laminate?

Hi,

I'm looking for an average estimate to replace all my carpets with laminate. And possibly stair runners on stair.

I've got 2 floors so 2flights of stairs, 1 landing, and 3 bedrooms. Standard terraced london house so not very big either. (Downstairs is around 65 sqm so I expect upstairs around 50)

Any idea what this might cost me? Just a ballpark before I start looking for proper estimates...if too steep might just get carpets in the bedrooms instead...

We just paid a little over 2k for 25sqm (entryway, corridor and small living room) for Quickstep laminate and installation. These things were more expensive than we thought.

Thanks, that's really useful to know.

Laminate flooring generally comes in packs that cover around 1.5 to 1.8 square meters. If you’re doing the whole 115 square meters in it then the materials cost will depend on how posh you go. If laminate and not solid wood then possibly around £20 a pack. You’ll need 77 packs to cover this area, so that’s £1540. You’ll need some form of backing to go underneath the floor, and that is much cheaper, but will put you in the region of 2 grand if you throw in a bit of money for tape and other little bits and bobs.

So then you come to labour. Going to depend on how many intricate cuts are needed or is the job going to be straight forward. I take about a morning to do a 4x4m sort of sized room, but just a DIY’er rather than professional. You may still however be looking at a few days labour to do a whole house, and if they are also doing the prep work such as stripping out and disposing of the old carpet then that will add on.

If in London I would ballpark this at 3.5 - 5k depending on how much prep and faffing about there’s going to be.

That's what I s afraid of! London prices are more inflated so might just do stairs and landing first etc

There also what they may find under there. When I did our front room I found 4 badly rotten joists - one snapped when I stood on it. I therefore had to replace these alongside all the floorboards which were badly rotten in places. Costs in old houses have a habit of adding up - can be a bit of a can or works starting a renovation!
