Last minute delay for completion nightmare

We are supposed to be completing today but our lawyers IT system is completely down and they have been unable to transfer the money. Has anyone experienced something similar and what happened next? Our sellers just rung us panicking as they have had all their stuff packed up and we have loads to deliveries booked to the new house tomorrow (whiteware, furniture etc). We are bottom of the chain - will be liable for everyone’s costs even if it’s our lawyers fault?

@alicefenton88 different solicitor but we were told the same. They have now contacted the building society and arranged to do it manually now though - so it can be done.

No, a purchase. Our mortgage offer expires very soon and it will cost us thousands more a year if we miss the deadline 🫣

That is promising. TR seem to be manually processing the bottom of our chain I think it depends on case handlers

Sooooo we just exchanged ! Sale and purchase with TR in the 3rd spot of the chain. Completion set for 13th. Hallelujah!!!!

I've a remortgage going through with TR. I complained to the lender a few days ago as TR are the lender appointed free legals. I got a call back today from the lender who said that they had spoken to their contact in TR who told them that - they now have access to their system and will get in touch with borrowers and progress stalled remortgages.

I then contacted my case handler at TR (who usually responds quickly) with this bit of info but have had no response to my email.

My lender has informed me of the same, that they are now processing completions. No news from the TR team to us as yet either.

I really don't understand your situation. Your purchase is a much simpler transaction than my horrendous chain isn't it? I do feel for you. Not sure what TR are playing at.

believe it or not, we’re still not totally sure it’s going ahead! The whole chain have agreed tomorrow but my buyer has been told by her solicitor that it’s a “suggested” completion date and she’s still waiting for confirmation of funds.

Similar happened last Thursday and Friday.

I’ve been tolerant and understanding so far but if I lose another £1k due to it not going through again, I’m going to flip!

I’ll let you know when I know for sure.

Well our whole chain looks like it’s fucked now, due to our buyers fannying round. I am suspicious they are going to pull out altogether having kept us on tenterhooks for eight months. Certainly not completing tomorrow and they are being elusive to get hold of.

Yes! No chain. We’re in rented and ready to go. I’ve asked them three times now to confirm deposit amount and bank account so I can transfer and they keep ignoring me.. It’s so frustrating. I feel like they’re hiding behind HSBC lender portal but HSBC have said TR have informed them they can process transactions.

@alicefenton88 I wonder if they’re dealing with chains first to limit their liability as much as possible. I hope it gets sorted for you soon.

I've been packed for aaaages. I have a bad back so I do it over months and do a couple of boxes a day. I've literally been living off two plates/dishes/wine glasses for weeks. :)

@Haggisfish3 oh no! I hate it when people go to ground. Still keeping fingers crossed anyway.

I’m also packed apart from the last few odds and ends, I just have to drag the beds and mattresses down now.

I agree. My buyers want my flat for an investment. They knew day 1 I had some dodgy walls, there was work to be done at the rear roof but not costed and a lease extension was needed. I told them all these things when they viewed. 3 weeks ago they tried to get £15k reduction because of the above and 'the state of the market'. I said NO.

In the end someone at the top of the chain agreed to a reduction of £7k and it was passed all the way down the line. So, they've basically got a free lease extension. Fuckers. A week later they said they weren't going to insist the lease extension was done at the same time as the purchase!!

Laughing all the way to the bank those two.

I don’t know, I despair, I really do. I’ve been totally transparent all the way through, and then someone at the top of the chain suddenly announced a months wait on us. We’ve been packed since the end of October, we thought we would only have a week between exchange and completion.

I actually don’t think people would believe my whole story if I told them.

have you heard anymore? Have they definitely pulled out? I’m hoping it will suddenly go through, I’m sure some people just like the power.

Nope. The solicitor for my ex dh got in touch to say he’s at a loss and what a pain in the arse every level of person has been apart from us. I have found an address and Facebook profiles…it is so tempting to find our buyers in person to ask them wtf they are playing at! 😬

@Haggisfish3 yeah. Don't do it. On one move I had, the buyers disappeared (without telling anyone) on a European tour with Rag N Bone man. She was a backing singer. I was furious. I kept tweeting her to get in contact. She never did but the whole sale was delayed by months!
