How long did it take for your buyer to sign contracts

I am selling my house and I accepted an offer on my house.

The guy is a cash buyer and he told me that he will not be getting any searches or survey done on the house, as he is a plumber himself and he looked at the house himself.

Contracts were sent by my lawyer to his lawyer seven weeks ago. He hasn't signed them yet.

I contacted my estate agent three weeks ago to ask the buyer when he was going to sign. And the buyer said that he "hoped to go in and sign on a date two weeks ago".

He hasn't signed it yet. So it has now been seven weeks since contracts were issued.

I'm not sure what to do now. I am thinking of waiting till the eight week mark and getting my estate agent to ask him again.

This is a very long time to sign isn't it. I'm not sure what to do for best. I could ring my EA to get him to ring the buyer again. But would just annoy a buyer?

How long can a buyer let this drift on?

I remember your last thread.

I think it's time your EA had a pretty frank chat with your buyer to find out what's going on. Signing the contract, if everything else is satisfied, takes no time at all.

Something doesn't sound quite right.

It's hard to know what to do. Do you think I could suggest a closing date , for the contracts to be signed.

It's hard to know what to do

Get the EA to call the buyer and say "A month ago you indicated you were about to sign the contract in order to be ready to exchange, but you haven't done so still. Is there a problem? Is there something wrong? What's causing the delay?"

Important to remember, actually signing the contract doesn't commit anyone to anything. It's only exchanging contracts when things become legally binding. But you can't exchange without a signed contract.
