Ikea kitchen installers

Hi there, as anyone recently used Ikea to install the kitchen, rather than DIYing it? I'm pretty much set on the kitchen, but all installers I check try to get me to Howden's and the like. Ikea's quote for installation was pretty reasonable, but wondering if we're in for a cowboy job.
Our closest store is Reading if that makes a difference.

I can let you know in a few days - ours is due to start tomorrow. It’s been a long wait though. When we ordered it they were aiming for early August, but their fitter is very busy so we’ve had to wait until late November.

I did about 15 years ago, they made a great job and despite us selling the house a couple of years ago, it’s still going strong and the new owners have no plans to change it

Fitters will push you towards Howden’s as Howden’s business model is to only tell the fitter the price, not the customer, and a lot of fitters add a chunk for themselves onto the price

Sisella · 19/11/2023 18:50

Howdens have sent the price to me, but it was double the price of the Ikea cabinets and just a bit boring and too much compromise for the space. I've fallen in love with the Stensund, so I'm kinda set now 😂

Oooooh, please share. And good luck with the install!

We used IKEA’s fitters. Our local ones were a large company that also fit for John Lewis and a number of other higher end kitchen companies, and they were fabulous. Our kitchen was immaculate for the 7 years we lived with it before we moved, and is still going strong for the next owners.

I hated the pricing nonsense of the other kitchen companies, and IKEA had far more options in terms of cabinet sizes and drawers. Would absolutely use IKEA again - their cabinetry is far superior to the Blum cabinetry we have in our new house.

Read the reviews of the particular fitters they contract with before doing it. I did, and didn't use them because the reviews were almost uniformly 1/5 and there were some real horror stories. Also IKEA made several bad mistakes with our order because of the complete disconnect between their designers and the warehouse (they forgot to tell me the oven was out of stock and this was only discovered when my builders were trying to find it to install it) and ringing us at 3 am in the US asking where was someone to let them in to make their delivery...That said, I am very happy with everything now that it's all fixed.

Thank you - will do!

Having spoken to kitchen fitters, (in a pub context), I understand its because all pipes need to be chased into the walls. Which, if the customer accepts and will pay for is fine, otherwise a pain for them.

Palmasailor · 19/11/2023 22:02

IKEA is great quality but they are fitted differently and so you should hire someone who is used to fitting them.

you will need to re thing all your plumbing electrics etc and take it all into account.

Have you look at DIY Kitchens (NOT B&Q)

They are near/ish to Sheffield

We fitted one from there this year 👍🏻

Me and a friend had IKEA kitchens installed around the same time 4 years ago , both using the IKEA installers , both found they did an amazing job , obviously it hasn't been too long but my kitchen is immaculate like brand new and the whole experience was easy. I am moving house soon so pretty sad to leave my kitchen to a go to a much older one but will have no hesitation to use IKEA again when it comes to doing it up.

I hope the install went alright?

Yes! We’re really pleased with how it’s gone. Everything was in by Thursday and looks good. IKEA checked in with us a few times to make sure there were no issues or questions (there weren’t, it was pretty straightforward and our fitter talked us through it). It feels quite sturdy so should be quite hard-wearing, fingers crossed. Best of luck with yours!

SoRainbowRhythms · 25/11/2023 08:03

Used them 4 years ago and couldn't be happier still!

helpfulperson · 25/11/2023 08:46

Mine was great. As mentioned by a PP IKEA kitchens fit differently so getting someone used to fitting them was great. He also organised and project managed other work in my house for me at the same time which all went so smoothly.

Ikea installed ours 3.5 years ago, no issues whatsoever. there were two of them, one built all the cabinets whilst the other was doing other stuff. Had an issue with the sink pipes not fitting and they coordinated with our plumber to get it sorted

Caspianberg · 03/12/2023 06:46

We fitted our own ikea kitchen. I don’t think it was any harder than fitting any kitchen for the first time? So I imagine I imagine ikea fitters should be easily able to fit it as they know what they are doing. We didn’t have to channel anything into walls behind.

Hey guys random question, I’m looking to get an Ikea kitchen and get it installed by them but I am buying the appliances elsewhere, the planner knows this, will they charge me extra to fit these on top of the quote? I’m confused!
