Getting carpets relaid

Does anyone know if its worth it to get my existing carpets relaid? We had a rewire in 2020 and they put the carpets down squint and left rubble underneath😡. We wanted to wait until the house was completely redecorated to deal with them but covid and family bereavements have meant that it's taken us 3 years. In the meantime our carpets have been worn quite heavily with various house refurbishments happening. We're just about to finish the decoration next week (Hurrah!) and I'm wondering if it will cost more to get them relaid and then shampooed or should we just replace? The carpet was installed about 8 years ago so it's not that old. Any advice greatly appreciated!

P.s. its two bedrooms and a stair that are carpeted.

the word worn means tired, used, not in good condition. Do you mean worn or do you mean dirty?

if they are dirty get them cleaned, then you can get them refitted but honestly they are already stretched so might not work. You need a fitter to look

if you do mean worn. Then just replace

Ah, I guess I mean dirty. Lots of dusty work over the past 3 years such as a new kitchen and we have an elderly cat. We hoover regularly and spot clean of course.

I would get them relaid first, so we can lift them and clean out the crunchy bits underneath, then shampoo. Should it be the other way round?

You can't really tell how they're going to come up (and therefore whether they're worth relaying) til you clean them I don't think.

Good point @Papillon23

I also think it’s clean first. Then if acceptable relay . I’d not do the other way round.
